GS Wedding Survey

Re: GS Wedding Survey

*** By the time you were married, how long had you been planning your wedding for?**
1 year

*** Did you set a wedding budget? Did you stick to it or went overboard?**
yes and no; at the beginning we werent sure wht the going prices were since this was the first wedding. Little by little we got the hang of it. There was a budget for the shaadi jora and the trousseu. With other things--we asked around and got wht we thought was best suited to our taste and situation.

*** What’s been your FAVOURITE part of planning your wedding? **
DREAMING! lol but being with family while making important decisions (such as choosing the stage, flowers etc etc) All of the "cousin/friend" interaction. I wish I was a more active member years before the wedding! This site teaches you so much

*** Was there anything that you LOVED but later came to know that the In-Laws had a hard time digesting?**
Staying in the bridal suite instead of the decorated room at home

*** What was your LEAST favourite part of planning your wedding? **
Not being able to go to Pak, not being able to choose my joras or jewelery, working until the actual events! It was stressful time!

*** Was there anything that the In-Laws happily did but it secretly drove you to tears? **
baree lol...but that's longgg forgotten now

*** Did you ever feel lonely/left out while the event was being planned? **
wish I could have choosen my trousseu etc--its such a huge part of the wedding process and I wasnt a part of it!

*** How many guests were invited to your wedding?**
300

^ thats what i wanna know!
i think this survey needs one more question, mahi- where was your wedding?

Re: GS Wedding Survey

.

Great thread Mahismart.

  • By the time you were married, how long had you been planning your wedding for?
    10 months.

  • Did you set a wedding budget? Did you stick to it or went overboard? Since it was our first wedding in the family we kinda didn't set any budget as we didn't know any better. After doing a lot of research on everything. I told my brother & father about how much we should be expecting to spend. We still ended up spending almost $5000 extra after that. I highly recommend brides to form a budget. If you don't fix a budget you won't care about double checking any prices & saving anywhere you can.

  • What’s been your FAVOURITE part of planning your wedding?
Cake tasting with my hubby. Us driving 300 miles just to get the wedding favors I wanted & designing my own wedding bands. Though I plan to redesign them on our first wedding anniversary.

  • Was there anything that you LOVED but later came to know that the In-Laws had a hard time digesting?
    Nothing that I know of.

  • What was your LEAST favourite part of planning your wedding?
Having to deal with the Walema venue people as I had even chosen details for my Walema.

  • Was there anything that the In-Laws happily did but it secretly drove you to tears?
    Nothing.

  • Did you ever feel lonely/left out while the event was being planned?
    Lol. Not at all.

  • How many guests were invited to your wedding?
    Mehndi:200. 210 showed up.
    Shadi:310. 265 showed up.
Walema: 280. Only 150 showed up.

So much for r.s.v.p

Your sisters fiance was at my wedding????? lol I had NO IDEA!!!

Ok, I'll add that.

*** By the time you were married, how long had you been planning your wedding for?**
I was really busy with my job when I was supposed to be planning for my wedding. I had a very high aim then and was just happy that everyone was doing a bangup job for me. I think we planned for 6 mths.

*** Did you set a wedding budget? Did you stick to it or went overboard?**
I did not have a budget. Just went along with whatever prices came our way and bargained for reasonable amounts.

*** What’s been your FAVOURITE part of planning your wedding?**
I was happy to be getting married and that was that.

*** Was there anything that you LOVED but later came to know that the In-Laws had a hard time digesting?**
Ahh...there were many! I had a full mehndi green sharara and party makeup for mehndi as my father wanted it. MIL got the shock of her life when she saw me in green, with makeup and ghoogatless! She did not let anyone take pics and covered my face with a green banarsi sari folded many times over to serve as a ghoongat.
I also got many casuals shalwar kameezes with my jehaiz which still irks them even after 6 years.

*** What was your LEAST favourite part of planning your wedding?**
That I didn't take an active part in it. Everyone was so excited about the whole event that they never really asked me for opinions.

*** Was there anything that the In-Laws happily did but it secretly drove you to tears? **
Well, they went on and on about everything from the naashta to my non-existent makeup skills and that bothered me quite a whole lot.

*** Did you ever feel lonely/left out while the event was being planned? **
Occasionally, but I didn't have a heart to point that out to so many enthusiastic happy faces.

*** How many guests were invited to your wedding?**
500 to the wedding and the same number at Valima but I do guess many more turned up because we didn't have food to give away to the guests or to keep it for the next day for ourselves.

*** Where was your wedding?**
Karachi

Re: GS Wedding Survey

I thought you were single Mahi :smack:

Re: GS Wedding Survey

LOL! I have 2 children, too, Niksik.

*** By the time you were married, how long had you been planning your wedding for?

I was doing casual online research for outfits- styles, colours, cuts-- for a while, even before the date was set. Once the date was set, I went to Lahore for a week to check out venues and place the order for my bridal. Everything else was done when I went back to Lahore for the remaining 5 weeks prior to the wedding.

  • Did you set a wedding budget? Did you stick to it or went overboard?

I wasn't really given a budget, except a sort of cut off limit for the dress. What I decided to do for everything else was, figure out the different price points for different things, set a budget based on what I thought was fair, and go from there. So, after a lot of running around and getting quotes, I came up with one for myself and sort of prioritized how much I wanted to spend on what and stuck to it and alhamdulillah, it worked out great.

  • What’s been your FAVOURITE part of planning your wedding?

*The satisfaction of seeing everything come together. Also, finally trying on the dress and seeing that it fit like a dream!
*

* Was there anything that you LOVED but later came to know that the In-Laws had a hard time digesting?

*No.
*

* What was your LEAST favourite part of planning your wedding?

The running around like a crazy person, until the day of the rukhsati. Although I loved the wedding planning, I kinda wish I had delegated everything in the last week, so that I could have relaxed and enjoyed the last few days leading upto the wedding.

  • Was there anything that the In-Laws happily did but it secretly drove you to tears?

*No.
*

* Did you ever feel lonely/left out while the event was being planned?

** I insisted on shouldering the responsibilities of all the tasks myself (not that smart a move! :p) and for the 5 weeks I was in Lahore prior to the wedding, I had no time to sleep, eat, drink, or do anything but wedding stuff so there was no way in hell I could have possibly felt lonely.
**
* How many guests were invited to your wedding?

*150.
*

* Where was your wedding?
**
Lahore.
