When you’ve baked the cake, and cooled it, put it in the freezer of a hour or so.
Take it out and cut it into layers. Doing it when the cake is slightly frozen is so much easier. Fill it and put it in the fridge to set. Take it out in another few hours and frost it. Start with the crumb coat- Mix a little of the frosting with some water and frost the cake in a very light layer (this is to prevent the cake from crumbling). Let it sit in the fridge for 15 mins, take it out and frost your cake. If your frosting is thick you can run your spatula under some hot water before frosting your cake.
