Group Forums

Isnt it your job to figure it out :clown:

On a serious note , I think one’s job here should be creating interest for people participation rather then forcing them to do nixers…..

The best way to deal with THIS particular scenario is to look at it from POSTER’s perspective. (when I say POSTER, I mean some1 having some problem and looking for advice) so where he/she should start from? Health & Fitness or Life1? lets suppose he/she couldn’t find anything in ALREADY posted threads. Next thing to do would be opening a thread and ask for advice. OK now don’t be naive we all know that how it goes in life1 threads; remember those hymenoplasty and facial hair growth threads? I admit that I myself was so close to upload a Gillette Mach3 image :whistling: ; anyway the point is that within hours members start replying with home remedies and what else; EVEN if a PROFESSIONAL response is posted, it is lost in sheer number of sympathetic/fun posts. :chai:

now lets suppose Tasha opens a thread for assistance covering one SPECIFIC topic, which has no interest for common members. The chances, that Any1 who has experience/knowledge of that topic will pick that thread, are very slim. for the reasons:
A:- there will be none or very few replies in the thread
B:- since no. of replies will be limited, it will be lost among OTHER active threads.

:stuck_out_tongue: sometimes it’s not just about traffic to a particular forum AE.

Very true. The groups have been created in a quick rush and some of them have got quite a heavy membership too, but i didnt personally notice anything particular or a fruitful discussion, other than loads of pics and beating about the bush. I feel GS is too excited with the idea. So was I. And joined a couple of groups instantly but found the highly non serious and rather a mocking tone so just quit right away. Groups are good as far as they can bring the people of mutual interests together and i believe they will start meaning business once the bhoot of excitement on the minds of the GS is over.

Re: Group Forums

i agree with mirage. and thus the hold. i remain confident that once set and done, the groups will serve a greater purpose. the current layout is very limiting to facilitate any meaningful discussions. i inted to start the beta testing sometime next week.

One can hardly have a meaningful or fruitful discussion with the limitations provided in Groups Forums ; other than posting pix n random comments in a never ending thread there isn't much to facilitate meaningful and directed discussions..............

so until they actually incorporate the facility to open threads within the groups they will remain pointless !

Re: Group Forums

Here's what i make of this:

While fresh ideas and revolutionary design are to be encouraged. And thus far proving to be liked by most members of GS. I for one, feel that in the excitement of grab-it-all and see what we can fit, approach might hamper the otherwise traditional forum that GS has proven to be.

When you offer and combine just so much activity, the people often tend to lose interest in discussing anything at all. It can be overwhelming. Sure, there should be various venues that people can turn to for all sort of advice/expression, but where do you draw the line?

I think that's what Shikra and A_E were trying to say as well. That adding group may dilute and divert people's focus from the otherwise main forum which are the center of all discussions.

Don't get me wrong, i love everything that's going on at GS, it looks awesome. Just thought i'd draw your attention to the broader picture.

I'm not against Groups. I'm just saying and like Azkar pointed (they will serve a greater purpose once finalized), and i hope they do. :)

Thank you! I was thinking about this part yesterday and you took the words out of my mouth. I am not against groups either, but members already have the blogs and the chat and the forums to read. On top of that, if threads are added within groups, I am not sure about others, but it sure will be overwhelming for me. Unless someone is logged on to gupshup throughout the entire day and is constantly reading updated material, I don't think they can reap the benefits and read ALL material posted on forums, blogs, and group threads. This can certainly become difficult to accomplish during a time span of a few hours.

Again, I am not against the idea but I am presenting a different view. If we all were to sit here and agree with Azkar, I don't think this thread would've accomplished the purpose it was opened to achieve for. One thing is for sure; as mirage said and Azkar agreed, this idea should be introduced after all the excitement settles down a bit.

well said ....exactly my POV on this as well.

as far as i understood this is public forum................why should we be "drawing lines" at all ???????..........

the whole idea of " change " is to "experiment and grow " rather than stagnate ....

regardless of the amount of time anyone is on GS ......I will be very much surprised if ANYONE actually read EVERYTHING that was ever posted that day/week................

everyone logs in to read whatever interests them.....and that is why you always have a certain group that visits a certain forum regularly.......

P.S.....Maybe i'm just imagining this but somehow i get the feeling that mostly Moderators more than anyone else are not in favour of groups.........:D

Re: Group Forums

I think groups are 'Customizable Forums'. We can have any group as main topic and can discuss it. Its better to have a separate Group rather then tons of Sticky on the top.

But we need to have more features on each Group and starter of each group should have Moderation rights over that group. It will not only help regular mods divide work, but will make one person responsible.

Re: Group Forums

umm we already have groups going on the site? where? i thought it was still in the thinking stage

Because there are some points/concerns that you don't know about and only mods know about. We have to keep some other things in mind as well, that's why :p

i think the General gupshup public would like to know of these things :jhanda:

So pleej disclose at your will:chai:

Re: Group Forums

^^ What she said ! ........:@:

Re: Group Forums

Re: Group Forums

Ali yaar write a white paper about ‘GS ka Mods’

Re: Group Forums

Well Namaan , I comprehend that Gs moderators are picked after some filter tests … so some may fail that communication test when its comes to doing general public talk ….

Human error matey bhoy ……

I assume you need a name for this activity…I know nobody asked…

how about calling it…

BIRDS OF A FEATHER…BLOG TOGETHER…

**You should have exclusive groups that are self regulated, but the posts should be visible for all to read…even those not belonging to the group…that will keep the rest of us curious and interested and informed, even though we are not able to post. **

Even now not every one posts in all threads, but we do like to read what is happening.

or were you thinking in the line of exclusive Chat Rooms?

Go for it…sounds interesting…:k:

accchhhhhawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.. :aq:

Re: Group Forums
