Re: Great Moment for CS/EE Research in Pakistan
Dear All
It gives me immense pleasure to inform that – in current desperate and negative media campaign about Pakistan – the dedicated team of nexGIN researchers have brought a unique laurel for Pakistan: representing at one of the top security conferences – RAID 2009 – which wll be held this year in France. Some of you might be aware of the fact that Security research is like a close big mafia – mostly dominated by US and European researchers – in which it is very difficult to make inroads. Our team – with the blessing of Allah – has broken the ice surrounding this myth. In, RAID 2009 only 17 papers are accepted with the following distribution:
i. US ---------- 12 Papers
ii. Europe ---- 05 Papers
iii. Asia ------- 02 Papers
It is suprising to tell you that from Asia, both papers are from Pakistan and from Pakistan both papers are from nexGIN RC of FAST National University. It is also an honor to mention that other instiutions represented at the conference are:
i. US : Intel, Los Alamos National Laboratory, UC Berkeley, Columbia University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Michigan Ann Arbor, University of Wisconson Madison, George Mason University, University of California, Santa Barbara, Georgia State University
ii. Europe: INRIA, Loria (France), University of Twente( Netherlands) , Masaryk University (Czech Republic), Foundation of Research and Technology (Greece),
iii. Asia: nexGIN RC, FAST-NUCES, (Pakistan).
Our papers are:
i. Saira Zahid, Muhammad Shahzad, Syed Ali Khayam and Muddassar Farooq. Keystroke-based User Identification on Smart Phones
ii. M. Zubair Shafiq, S. Momina Tabish and Muddassar Farooq. Realtime Mining of Structural Information to Detect Zero-Day Malicious Portable Executables
This is for the first time in the history of this prestigious conference that two papers from Asia are accepted – let alone from Pakistan. We are also thanful to the efforts of our Co-PIs – Dr. Khayyam and Dr. Fauzan – from SEECS, NUST. We believe that the young team of our research engineers deserve full appreciation.
with kind regards
–
