Considering we have one pillar of government sitting in the President's House, another pillar is the arguably more democratic and more accountable Prime Minister House, and the third being the current judges of Supreme Court, it will be interesting to note which government is pissed at Geo (or more pissed)?
I am sure at some point, some judge of the current Supreme Court will get annoyed and may start Contempt of Court proceedings (there was something going on yesterday too), but for practical purposes, it should be the Prime Minister House that will be issuing directives like this. Any sitting government would want public emotions to calm down so as not to escalate into street protests, regardless of which issue it is, and I can see why PPP government is also beginning to get queasy about this whole independent media thingy (their discomfort is clear even on talk shows) as they are not used to it and are more inclined to like puppy media which nods its heads like PTV to anything the government says. But still for a democratic government to blantantly use dictatorial tactics against media will certainly raise some serious eye-brows.
Faisal, Geo had applied for license quite some time ago, and its clear where this order is coming from, or otherwise they would have been on air months ago. The present supreme court is nothing but an extension of Aiwaan-e-Sadr, handpicked to act as the presidents loyal little puppy. Dogar is no better than the henchman attarni jurnal Malik Qayum, and too bad they cant come and enforce PEMRA or contempt of court at me for calling him crooked. The more they try to curb down on media, the more resistance they will face. I dont see what the big deal is, if Shahid Masood or Hamid Mir can speak their minds on TV. I am sure in a little while Geo English will become a reality, its bound to happen.
