Sad stuff. Moreso for me about the state of Pakistan than Salman Taseer himself. If it is the case that he was killed because of his stand on blasphemy laws then his is a heroic death.
Every time a politcian tries to do some good in Pakistan, they get killed by those who want to keep the country backwards.

PPP should exploit his death shamelessly so atleast theres some point to it. Much more than hanging the douchebag would be to keep him alive long enough for him to see that his actions led to the opposite of what he wanted.

Salman Taseer, the governor of Pakistan’s most politically important province Punjab, was assassinated by one of his bodyguards in Islamabad on Tuesday, apparently for opposing blasphemy laws.
Taseer was one of the most moderate political voices in the main ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which this week slumped into a major political crisis when its junior coalition partner walked out of the federal government.
He was outspoken against the Taleban and other Islamist militants hunkered down in the country’s northwest, and which have made increasing inroads into Punjab in recent years, and most recently against controversial blasphemy laws.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the killer was a member of Taseer’s own security team, who quickly confessed to the crime. The killer had apparently worked for the governor on five or six previous occasions.
‘He confessed that he killed the governor himself because he had called the blasphemy law a black law,’ Malik said.
‘He has confessed his crime and surrendered his gun to police after the attack,’ he told reporters.
The brazen daylight shooting came as wealthy Pakistanis and expatriates were enjoying a late lunch or afternoon coffee in nearby cafes.
Spent cartridges littered the road outside Kohsar market in Islamabad’s upmarket F6 sector, just a short distance from where Taseer kept a home, witnesses said.
Local administration chief Amir Ahmad Ali said Taseer died in hospital after being wounded in the shooting in F6.
‘I was in the market. I heard the gunfire and hit the ground,’ said Shaukat, 28, a terrified labourer.
‘Later on, while running for shelter I saw a man in uniform being grabbed by police. Later on, police officials said he was the attacker.’
Police and anti-terror forces surround the area and the market closed after the attack. A silver Toyota car with a flat wheel was parked on one side. Blood was smeared on the road in two places, said an AFP reporter.
Taseer was a leading moderate voice in the PPP, which is facing a major political crisis since losing its parliamentary majority on Sunday.
Taseer made his money as a chartered accountant, setting up consultancy firms and a brokerage house, and with investments in telecommunications, the media, insurance and real estate before going into politics.
He served as minister for industry and production under former military ruler Pervez Musharraf from 2007 to 2008.
He was a long-time member of the Punjab provincial assembly and appointed governor by the PPP-led coalition government in 2008.

well...he had earned a lot of enmity in the past ...Punjab govt was not much fond of him...his stance about blasphemy law...and then recently his remarks must have aggravated someone a lot...and secondly in pakistan it is really easy to kill anyone...you can kill someone even he/she has not done anything to you...and he was after all a governor...May his soul rest in peace....

It is very unfortunate that today Salman Taseer became Shaheed.
In known history of mankind, it was only Changez Khan whose army killed innocent humans in the name of Changez Khan after his death, but even that happened for a very short time after his death. It is also know that followers of many notorious rulers/leaders used to do that, that is kill people in the name o their dead ruler/leader.
Prophet (SAW) was Rahmat-ul-Lil Alameen, something Iblis-Shaitan never liked. Now Iblis-Shaitan has succeeded in creating an army of Kharjees, Jahannumies, and Jahulas who are making lives difficult and killing people in the name of Prophet (SAW) and thus maligning the name of Prophet (SAW) by trying to portray Prophet (SAW) nauzobillah as Zahmat-ul-lil Alameen ... inflicting harm on people in Prophet (SAW) name.
Worse is that, today there are very few Muslims who even know Islam or are daring enough to tell these Kharjees that they are Jahamumis as Prophet (SAW) could never have approved blasphemy law or what these Kharjees are doing in Prophet (SAW) name, and that on judgment day Allah would throw these Kharjees in lowest part of hell.
PS: All what Kharjees army of Shaitan is doing is certainly a war against name of Prophet (SAW), Prophet (SAW) person, and Islam, as knowingly or unknowingly, instead of making people love Prophet (SAW) there must be many today in Pakistan fearing to even utter name of Prophet (SAW).

I suspect opposing the blasphemy law could be one reason, but if he was killed by elite police's person this is really scary...that shows the situation of security in the country...

Should not say but burray ka injaam burra hota hai. Not only him but many like him, will have to taste the furit of Na-insaafi they have been doing all their lives and how they play with innocent ppl lives. At the end we all are going to die, and we all are answerable for what we have been doing in world and in this life. Thats why do good and know it that this life is very short n temporary.

You can disagree with someone every bit but this is not a way to settle the differences, neither in Islam nor in Humanity
