if i'm not mixing things up badly, that gorkha tribe was in deserted area along side river
I'll check in the book dealing with tribes and castes of Sindh, whether such people existed in Sindh or not.
Re: Gorakh Dhanda, Gorkhay and Gorakhpur
why such a longer platform? Is it more busy than Bhatinda's station?
at some point in time, it was used as the platform for loading and unloading freight train [maal gaaRii, goods train] which pretty long at times...so a long platform was needed for this purpose.
now the long distance trains are pretty long [24 to 26 coaches/bogies plus one or two locomotives depending on the grading of the tracks]...in the last 10-15 years, almost ALL the platforms across India had to be extended to accommodate these long trains.
now, at Kharagpur, the platforms are NOT used for freight trains anymore. instead, they park 2-3 trains one ONE platform...they have signals marking the beginning and ending of the platforms [1A, 1B, 1C].
Re: Gorakh Dhanda, Gorkhay and Gorakhpur
Gurkhas are actually from Nepal (as we all know). They are not one community. different groups and races are included in Gurkhas including some groups from Tibet. The writer of ’ Sindh joon Zatiyoon aen Qabeela’ says that they migrated to Sindh after Arab conquest of Sindh. They claim to be Rajputs and known as ‘Mugar’ and ‘Gorang’ in Sindh. They are a tiny minority as most of them migrated to India at the time of partition. Quite confusing ![]()

which language do they (gurkas) speak in India? Its strange that Firaq Gorakhpuri had such a mastery in Urdu inspite of being from a bordering area.
Re: Gorakh Dhanda, Gorkhay and Gorakhpur
Gurkha's speak nepali, written in Hindi letters, and generally speak, nepali accented Hindi, they look like chinkis, but most of them are Hindus and devote of Mahakali, and are considered as "World's most feared soldier", but this could be British propaganda of WWII, as wehrmacht was no less brave :)

German Defense Forces are called Wehrmacht, highly efficient and disciplined force. British initially lost many a times, but because they were British, they finally won. Punjabis don't remember that much, Indian sense of history must be of a little myth which must be supported by even bigger myth, and that is considered as history that we generally remember
Re: Gorakh Dhanda, Gorkhay and Gorakhpur
You mean people remember history as shown in bollywood movies ![]()
Re: Gorakh Dhanda, Gorkhay and Gorakhpur
No, next day, we plan how to have that Saari of Jodhabai as our wedding dress, and rest is in past and is not required to learn, so we forget :), and in offices, women with their semi accented english will discuss every Indian movie in English ![]()

Gorkhas are demanding "Gorkhaaland" and it's gaining quite a momentum. They speak Nepali and are fund in Darjeeling area [North Eastern West Bengal].
firaq Gorakhpuri was an English professor at Allahabad University and my Dad had contacts with him along with Jigar Muradabadi and AsGhar GonDvii. he was a Brahaman, i think.

so Gorkhas are also involved in gorakh dhanda of partition
Re: Gorakh Dhanda, Gorkhay and Gorakhpur
yep…and, i support them…they do NOT want to separate from India…they just want a separate province or protectorate for themselves. more Gorkhas want to have “Gorkhaland” as a separate provice of India…Good Luck.
Gorkhas are very honest, brave, hard working and loyal people. they work as security guards/chowkidar all over India…we had one Gorkha chowkidaar in our neighbourhood in Aligarh…he used to whistle at every hour on the hour right in front of my window. lol
