with so many devices, the wiring can get a little messy...
so gizzy, what sorta IDE cables are you using? can't really see any except for a single grey one..
whats the red tape like thing going in the harddrive above the power supply
and that case is exactly the same (internally) as mine that I got like 4 years ago (still going strong). from the outside its just plain beige. i paid like 170$$ for the case then (canadian dollars), how much did yours cost? I guess it'll be alot cheaper now.
the most devices i've had were 3 cd/dvd/cdr drives, 3 HD, zip, floppy. i needed an extra pci ata 100 card at the time. those were the days .....

Get a flat screen panel dude!!! And the do something about the color of the drives, they dont match the casing!! Other than that, you have a gaming machine built!!!
Two things I would do if I were you...
Get a Sound blaster audigy
Get an intel board rather than ASUS
So how about a counter strike match up ;)

For many reasons..
But mainly, I had the SCSI one first. Actually I had a lot more SCSI peripherals a few years back, and now its getting less and less.
But now, IDE is gaining in on SCSI in every aspect. And is catching up on SCSI when it come to data transfer, yet is still just as cheap as ever!
That Yamaha SCSI I have is a unique case! It is actually an IDE drive, but it can be converted to SCSI by adding a little IDE to SCSI converter at the back of the drive.
The 2nd Writer is a higher speed one (burns at 40x speed) And that 3rd writer is a DVD writer. when burninng normal CDR's it onlt burns them at 16x speed, which is a little too low, So I have kept the older CD-rewriters. :-)

Not just that, also if there are not many devices, even then it can and gets very messy inside the case. All those unused cables hanging here and there!
nomaan The ASUS mainboard came with black coloured IDE flat cables, the gray one was an extra cable needed, which I added myself. But I will replace them with rounded cables very soon.

Before this I also had an Aopen case, still have it actually. :k: And I agree, after almost 4 years now, still going strong 
My old case is also beige.
Well, this new case cost me now € 150,- (which is US$ 168,00)
About the number of drives, I know what you mean! I never went for an extra IDE contriller card, I got myself a SCSI adpater instead. So, the most drives I had at one time was 1 floppy, 1 zip drive, 3 IDE harddrives, 3 SCSI Optical drives (CD-Rom, DVD-Rom, CD-Writer) and also 2 SCSI Harddrives. Of course with SCSI I could add more.
Well, with these new Mainboards coming with extra RAID controllers onboard. You can now sometimes install as much as 12 or even more IDE devices, which is excellent.
there are:
- 2 x Ultra100 IDE connectors (thats 4 IDE drives)
- 2 x IDE raid connectors **(another 4 IDE drives)
- and 2 Serial ATA connectors (thats 1 drive on each connector, making it another 2 drives)
= That gives you the possibility to install 10 (parallel and serial ATA) IDE drives.
did you hear of the new Serial ATA standard yet?
Well, that is a Serial ATA drive, and that red cable is a serial ATA cable.
Just to name a few advantages of Serial ATA against parallel ATA.
- High speed data transfer (even higher speeds as much as 300mb/s and more with the release of SATA 2.0 and 3.0 in the near future)
- Thinner cables, no more 40 or 80 pins drives, using those IDE flat cables. ~~> Allows better air flow!
- Uses less current, so less heat, and so on, and so on…

Well, I mean, maybe they are good and are stable and work just fine, but apart from that, I don’t see any other reason why one should buy an Intel board???
I mean, most other boards also work just like any Intel borad and are extremely stable too.
I have been using ASUS for I don’t konw how long. And never had any problem.
But it is now for the first time in years, that I am considering to get a Gigabyte board instead of an ASUS.

For the first time now, I was looking for a different Mainboard. After having used this ASUS P4C800, I was not really sdatisfied by the overall performance and the package contents. But after reading this review at THG, I am seriously considering to replace the ASUS by a Gigabyte board.

yaaarrrr, they are stable fast and cuz they dont heat up mutch, i can use a low rpm cooler 
( my comp still sounds like a jet taking off )
