Let no man tell his wife nor any woman tell her husband that a one-to-one eat out with opposite gender is strictly business … they would be lying. It is social - they would be friends or friend-like colleagues who do this … people who do one-to-one eat outs do end up talking about personal things … the only time I can gather it is business is when it might be a boss who is the other gender or you are the boss and a dinner date with work was scheduled.

The jealousy is not about whether the other half is doing anything naughty … but rightly so … some quality talk time is being spent with someone else and that is a valid cause for a bit of jealousy … at least give the wife or husband a chance to join in and share that …

but then we can say the same for any situation at work where people from both genders are required to work together. why single out lunch? For example, travelling together for business or working together on a specific project as a two person team. these situations will demand the two people to be “alone together”. and the possibility of quality talk time and getting insights into personal lives is always there. if you are a professional, you cannot just say no to avoid such situations.
