Re: Gina please advice me!

Castor oil isn’t going to do anything to thicken your eyelashes.

If you want to stick with natural treatments, I’d try biotin supplements. There’s a little bit of evidence to suggest that biotin may help with the health of hair and nail, but I wouldn’t expect any miracles with it.

The only intervention that has been proven to thicken and lengthen eyelashes is a medication called bimatoprost (sold under the trade name Latisse). In my experience, most patients see significant improvement within 8-10 weeks of starting. The medication is generally safe, but can have some side effects, the most common of which include darkening of the iris of the eyes (which probably isn’t a huge concern for Pakistanis who have dark eyes to begin with), and rarely darkening of the eyelids.

You should probably start by stopping the lemon juice!

Lemon juice contains psoralens, which are chemicals that make your skin MORE sensitive to sunlight and UV damage. If it’s doing anything, the lemon juice is making you more likely to tan in general, and is making any dark spots on your skin even darker.

The single, most important thing for you to do is to start wearing sunscreen daily. The little bit of sunscreen that’s mixed into your foundation isn’t enough…you need something with broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. I’d recommend that you try to find something that contains Mexoryl/ecamsule or zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Otherwise, every time you step outside those dark spots are only going to get darker.

If you need something that works faster, you should see a dermatologist, who can prescribe tretinoin and hydroquinone creams. You can apply the tretinoin everywhere…it will help improve the color and texture of your skin. I would use the hydroquinone on the dark spots only, as you don’t want to bleach all of your skin. Again, neither of these creams will be effective without a good sunscreen.
