Getting confused about Profession path ..

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

That is really nice . The career advisors at college don’t know much about any thing, all they say is complete A levels and get into uni, nothing else. I have experienced it. Na, I 'll open a separate detailed thread once I complete this term next month before that I need suggestions for the work placement,I 'll ask IT professionals to express their ideas as we have IT section on this forum.

This

Someone who has completed their Bachelors , they got the job and still are confused what to do? It scares me

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

Bachelors isn't the end of the world. I can always go for a Masters, though I don't know what I'd study for my Masters.

AND

This isn't the only job in the world. Some people have to go through several jobs, before they can find their true calling.

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

Good luck! :)

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

^ Thank you.

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

I wanted to become a marine biologist, ended up in chartered accountancy now working in islamic finance and planning to move to madina while trying to establish my own business in max. 2 years time inshallah @ karachi. :)

and this is NOT what i am trying to achive. :)

It is not related to confusions rather indifferences in choosing between careers and challenging oppertunities else where. Although i am still par with my friends who have focussed on a single career, i still would not recommend any one to follow my foot step. Nature do not work that way-in auto mode.

Point is , dont get demotivated if fate takes you elsewhere. We are not here for ever. :)

PS: Dont know if that is any where related to OP, but just wanted to share.

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

Bao, a very valuable post of yours , it really is.

I have seen people become very unhappy with their lives when things arent working the way they want in their life and career .. Infact not being able to direct ones career how we want , can lead to a lot of confusion and very few people make peace with it ...

I am glad I read your very positive post .. you are right, demotivation shouldnt occur if fate takes us elsewhere , at the end of the day some things are already decided for us by Allah Almighty and where our rizk is going to come from is definitely also decided ..

having said that , its important that we still try to endeavour and achieve what we want and to be able to make that choice one needs as much information as possible about all potential careers around us .. so that we can at least give our best shot to achieve something , if fate later takes us into a different direction , then we should make the best out of it rather then letting it take over our lives .

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

I have heard there are not more than 20 fields of work if you categorize them. I personally think it is parents responsibility to know there children and their interests. If they think their kid is doing good in sport or art or etc then they should encourage kid at its early age by providing them environment etc but should not force their will.

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

I agree with this wholeheartedly .. One of the most important roles that Parents play is helping their child in deciding about a potential career and providing those opportunities for them to progress well .. Because of this one lacking factor, kids can become really confused and can feel directionless .

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

whilst my career choice was predetermined and i had no qualms about it as it was instilled at a young age (whether i agree with it is not the issue) i did feel grateful that i had something that i was working toward. had i not been given this then i would have a plethora of options to choose from and that in itself is daunting especially when at that age, where you want to have a vague idea of a career, and you don't have any guidance.

i think experience helps. my younger cousin was on the path of accountancy and she was shown a course in radiography by her friend which intrigued her but confused her too, so i told her to get some work experience in that field and she did, she realised if she didn't actually get that experience of what a radiographer does etc she would not have ever pursued it.

and if you're really confused then it helps to have a broad range of subjects covered. i can only talk about A levels and IB (IB pretty much covers you anyway) imo, it's essential to cover atleast one science A level (chem or maths, maybe even physics. ugh @ bio) so you still have the option of getting on to any of the science related courses if nothing else works out.

uh yeah, i think i went off on a tangent..

Re: Getting confused about Profession path ..

Sweetif, quite a valuable input actually .. thanks so much ..

you are absolutely right in all the things you said. Its important for elders to form some kind of a path for the child, they dont have to push the child into accepting that path , but at least the child will be less confused and if by chance they come upon a career choice that excites them more , then they should be provided the opportunities to explore that field more ..

At the end of the day, career is a choice , which one has to live with all their life , its very hard to change fields.
