I didn’t get the registration number because it was not in my field of view, I didn’t know it was criminal at that time nobody I told afterwards really took it seriously…but going through a drive thru would have stalled them because they would be expected to order…

Not necessarily, they could just drive straight through without ordering. But it’d give you the chance to stop and make the call, while waiting for your order.
These things should be taken seriously, you don’t know what their intentions were. I don’t want to scare you but, it’s better to be safe and assume the worst.
