^ Got it...so does Allah pardon ppl with health problems that have been prescribed these capsules that are made from pork or beef gelatin, or are they supposed to as u said before, empty the capsule contents and then just take the powder only?
^ Wot? I know i said that i understood that gelatin in those items is haram...my last question to Rasheed Ahmed is about if it's okay for the sick to take them? no1's answered that ok...:D
this is I think the key: because the end-product gelatin doesn’t have any trace of the original animal it came from I think it should be allowed to be consumed.
Because if this gelatin was not allowed to be consumed because it came out of the pig, then why is the it allowed to breath in oxygen that potentially also might have been breath by a pig. Clearly, those molecules of O2 must have gone in and out of the pig as well.
Yes, if there is no other Halal medicine available, you have to consume it to save your life. But looks at our Muslims doctors, they are here in USA for last fifty years but they never influence the pharmaceutical industry to avoid use pork by products in medicine. On other hand Muslims consumers compelled Dunkin Donuts Inc. to replace human hair L-cysteine from their cake donuts.
Gelatin is not the case of Tabdeele-Mahiya because original amino acids of pig collagen remain same in pig gelatin, during gelatin processing the uneatable collagen changes to eatable form in gelatin by just rearranging or destroying the inter peptides bonds like disulphite bonds, nothing destroy during gelatin processing except non protein material.
I have a few questions. My knowledge from chemistry in college is crude:
In organic chemistry the class of compounds classified as alcohols has the following empirical formula:CnH2n-1OH
C2H5OH (ethanol) is the alcohol we drink, and methanol (CH3OH) and other higher alcohols (pentanol and butanol) are mostly toxic and poisonous. Islam prohibits drinking of alcohol or anything that intoxicates you. What's the ruling on usage of higher alcohols for medicinal purposes? What about SD-alcohols (denatured alcohols) in perfumes and colognes?
Nescio brought up an interesting point in relation to L-cysteine. L-cysteine is an amino acid (one of the 20 essestial building blocks of protein, and the L is just an steroisomer), which is manufactured in nature in human hair, animal hooves and bird feathers. Bakeries use that as a reducing agent. (chinese women's hair is mostly used)
Rasheed mentioned that it is haram if obtained from human hair. My question is all animals die and degrade into basic elemental forms again. When a human body decomposes, all its nitrogen, vitamins, minerals, iron, water are released back into nature. For all i know i could be drinking someone's piss right now, so why such ruling in place if something at a molecular level is obtained from human hair?
If that is the case then we should not be eating vegetables and fruits which might be using the same elements from decomposed body as a products of the carbon cycle, nitrogen-fixation cycle, and water cycle?
Any chemical other than alcohol is Halal including the methane , acetone because they do not intoxicate. Ethyl alcohol is denatured by adding benzene and other chemical to denatured the alcohol, so it is called Specially Denatured Alcohol (SD Alcohol) so it is considered Halal because it is denatured. Most the spice are extracted by acetone and hexane, these extracts are called Natural Flavoring which is different from Natural Flavor. So spice extarcts are not Haram.
L-Cysteine is a non essential amino acids and do not contribute any nutrition and also it is not part of those 8 essential amino acids which provide the protein effencies ratio of a protein. Meat protein lacks essential amino acid and has lower qulality protein, milk protein casein has more essential amino acids so its qualities is higher than meat protein.
In Islam, Muslims are not allow to eat any part of human body as a food even the hair, although Jewish Rabbi considered it as a dead part of the body so it is Kosher for them. All the ulema througout the world has accepted L-Cysteine from human hair as Haram. It is used in bakery dough to reduce mixing time, easy movement of dough over machinary, prevent shrinkage in pizza crust. At lot of places in Quran, Allah has mentioned about earth and how it bring the crops. Man has learned over the years to improve crops by adding manure but crops are not become haram. It is sharia law that man can not eat any part of human body, it is consdered Haram.
