Gavaskar points finger at Chappell

Re: Gavaskar points finger at Chappell

^ yes, Chappel took initiative....started to clean up the mess by kicking out a non-performing liability called Ganguly......and what did he get in return....joota-chappal and effigy-burning

Do you seriously think any other person in Chappel's place would have brought home the World Cup for India.

I will say this again....no coach...gora or kaala can create Cheetahs out of Langoors.

btw, when people fail in an examination, how often do you see them blaming their Teacher for it.

Woolmer worked wonders with the South African team, but hardly so with the Pak team. What does that tell you ?

I just think Chappel has become an easy target for all and sundry.

Though I never expected too high from our demigods....least winning the world-cup.

But honestly....this team at least deserved to be in Semifinals??

Damn wrong..... at least in last 8???

Majority of team composition was same as our previous crusade till finals...except we got some better sloggers like Dhoni.

But yeah....there were too much of issues like changing the team 'overnight' into an all young side rather than concentrating on team at hand...at least till world-cup...not to mention the team was selected after seeing all available option...I don't think any youngster selected would have done wonders.

Chappel may have agreat ideas and BCCI might even offer him a consultants job in future...but the one thing is correct, he has a big ego.

It hurts, when a highly paid Coach is not in talking terms with most of the senior players...that too during world-cup

Steve Waugh said it rightly 'Greg should not be touched even from a pole's distance'

But we Indians vent our anger by burning effigy of our players in India or booing our most committed players like Sachin, calling them langoor notwithstanding.

Re: Gavaskar points finger at Chappell

Some1, I am all for scraping all egoistic players and starting everything new. But Chappel didnt do that. He was harping more on making or developing a group of players (pathan, dhoni and raina) as match winners. In his quest for consistency from these players, he completely neglected other players, including sehwag, sachin and Yuvi. His actions makes me think that he was concentrating more on getting a playing 11 who at any point can be a match winner, in doing so he neglected the main part of coaching, ie to motivate and advice the players or strategising. Too much of expectation from Pathan and Raina led to their downfall. Too less time to Sachin, Gangu and Yuvi made them bitter against the coach.
Indian team cannot be like Australia. I dont think the Indian team, present or future, have the physical power to dominate a game like Australia does. But still what is important is that Indians should compete. In order to compete Indians need not be as talented and ruthless as the Australians are. They need to have just the mental strength to compete.
Since u like so much the analogy of football, i give you an egs. of one such team with average power who went on to win a major tournament. This was Greece in 2004 euro cup. They were undefeated all throughout the tournament and won the cup for the first time. The credit goes to the Otto Rehhagel, the coach of the Greek team which made a very average looking Greek team to a champion team.

^ sachin, greedy for money? please, you sound like those fellows from rediff
he is one of the most committed people to Indian cricket, i can agree his form is lost but dont bring nonsense arguments into the picture

vineshvk, i agree with you, our players might not be the best in the world, but they are good, and they can compete, and i dont think its far fetched to say that under chappel things have not improved at all. we have some really good players who have potential to be world class, i think its possible under right administration

we got some rebuilding to do now after this mess, lets see what happens
new coach to be picked soon, whatmore and maybe moody for contention
