I’ve been gaming since I was in high school. I consider myself a semi-hardcore gamer. I was addicted to gaming (well more like to a particular game) for about a year and a half. I still game now, though nowhere near how much I used to when I was in university and a couple of years after graduating. Now I might spend a maximum of 12 hours on games per week. I mostly game on weekends or sometimes at night.
Even when I was addicted to a game, the 10 hours daily is not something I would do. I agree that this type of gaming is excessive if it’s done like this daily. The only time I might have spent that much time gaming would have been on a weekend or during holidays. If done once in a while, I don’t think it’s a problem.
How can you tell about their gaming habits from a dawat? Do they discuss their gaming habits? If they happen to be playing games at the dawat, which my friends and I would do a lot, it might just be that at the time they’re together and instead of doing something like talking about politics/watching tv/watching a movie, they chose to play a game instead. That’s what we do a lot at dawats too, and partly because that is one time that we’re all together. Aside from those occasions, you won’t see me playing some games much.
As for older guys gaming, that’s the same trend I’ve seen. Many of my friends only got their first console after graduating from university and some after getting married.
If this took part once and lasted up to a couple of months, then I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. If this is their routine and has been for years, then I might find it worrying. I would love it if my wife who also enjoyed my hobby.
That sums it up perfectly. The same could be said about any other type of activity.
