Re: Future Trends
Swheety, I suggest youdo not try to portray ika dokka incidents as norm...I was merely trying to show you the fallacy of your argument.
Re: Future Trends
kaleem have u ever noticed the benches in public parks? the walls? the seats in public transportation? why are they always torn and abused? i dont think the bus conducter is time passing by ripping out the seats. i noticed it on a majority of public transportation and parks. they opened a new shopping center by my house in karachi and they had a guy dress up as mighty mouse or something and full grown adult men were pulling the poor guys tail and nose saying "abay tou nakli hai" i mean wth!
Re: Future Trends
^ I can say the same about any major city in USA? So what do you think of the guy who whakced the crap out of the mascot at a baseball game? It happens everywhere, you need to get out more... :)
Re: Future Trends
Pakistan is not struggling because people are moving away from Islam. Wearing T-shirts and shorts is not the biggest challenge we are up against. On the other hand, western countries are not progressing because they are saints or have a great work ethic.
They have a 'system' in place which is enforced and respected. If Pakistanies have to blame anyone, they should blame themselves.
No foreign country can impact your fragile values in such a drastic way that the whole nation becomes corrupt.

Re: Future Trends
Its just a facade, most people in Pakistani urban enclaves are just in for the appearance, because the appearance is the thing which is “IN”. You cannot enter in to Jamat Islami fundraiser if you came on a rikshaw and the gatekeeper saw that or you would be allowed into the governor house if you were riding a BMW. It’s such a class-conscious society, people with trim beards or pierced ears have no sense of ethics, rule or broadly speaking no sense of justice. A guy on a Suzuki katana 650 in DHS or a Honda CD70 at Link road would put your life on risk for just making an illegal turn, and they would do that ten times a day with out impunity, and this goes on every level of our society.
I believe that the only thing, which can change all this, is fierce enforcement of the laws that are already on the books. Once you know that justice would be served, things would start improving. Then there would be no need to worry if the society is becoming westernized or not.
Re: Future Trends
im not comparing it to US. There is no comparison.
im speaking from experience and its not a normal sight to view a majority of buses and parks mauled by the public.
Re: Future Trends
We can learn a lot of good things from the west and we should but unnecessary things such as their language, costume and cuisine there is no need for unless we’re living in their country’s because it reeks of wannabeism and it’s nice to have originality and a Pakistani identity of our own and we should be even more careful about not adopting their ill habits such as alcohol abuse or premarital sex because it’s not cool and it wont do us any good to try and ape them in everything, we’ll always be “Pakistani” in their eyes and more importantly in our own conscience.
We should however follow them in their positive ways, in things that are taught by our religion but practiced by them…
If we want to be modern and respected let us promote education and learning so that we produce rocket scientists, improve the rights of women and treat them as equal to men in our country, we all know women in the villages are treated second class, it’s small things like girls being taught to offer the men of the house food first and then the women eating whatever’s left over, more emphasis on boys education than girls, girls are not that encouraged to learn. Forced marriages even in urban Pakistani families some children already have somebody picked for them and it’s almost always a cousin and there’s no chance of saying no, that’s wrong, arrange marriages should be so that parents are no more than an introductory/recommendation service. Nationality shouldn’t be based on ethnic background but anyone who recognises Pakistan as his nation and Urdu as his language should be considered Pakistani just as in Britain I’m considered as British as someone whose family has lived here for 500 years without any regard for race, being truly multiracial with Blacks marrying Whites and Yellows marrying Browns. Discourage rural backwardness and urbanise our country by polishing our unrefined mountain, field and desert dwelling folk. & For GOD sake stop living in the past at what we might have been 50-1000 years ago but concentrate on the future because whilst we waste our resources on idol issues the world is looking ahead and moving forward, we’ll only get left behind as a nation because those who look back only fall flat on their face.
Caste, ethnic and sectarian divisions within our country especially in the rural areas need to be abolished with the help of our media, school curriculums etc. One God, One Messenger, One Book, One Quaid, One Land/Home. ![]()

Modernization VS. Westernization…
I can partake in this discussion interesting topic, but don’t feel like it…
