Re: From 'Bismillah' to 'Roza Kushai'
Never heard of these.
Oh the mayun part is SO interesting. ![]()
I never had a Bismillah or Roza khushai function. My parents are not really into these things. I don't remember any friends having such events as well.
However, I do know of some young kids having a roza khushai and Bismillah party and they wear garlands and have mithai.
Looks quite fun tbh, but I guess it all boils down to celebrating and having an excuse to party and be merry. :)
From 'Bismillah' to 'Roza Kushai'
I think they are prevalent mostly in mahajir families/UP/Hyderabadis/Delhi walay/Bangloris...everyone I know from these backgrounds does Bismillahs/Ameens/Roza Khushais with much zeal and fanfare...I've grown up seeing all of these held for all the kids in my family.
The only reason I didn't do bismillahs for my boys is because my parents passed away when my son was 4, we were in the midst of planning his bismillah, had the hall booked and his sherwani already made when both Ammi and papa lost their battles with cancer.
I didn't have the heart to do it for my twins either after that.
Re: From 'Bismillah' to 'Roza Kushai'
I had both events. Bismillah was when i was either 4 or 5, roza kushai at 7. I also had a small celebration aftter i had succesfully finished reading the entire quran, which i think i did at age 7 or maybe 8. but that party wasn't as big as bismilla. bismilla was a big event, alot of people were invited including neighbors, family friends, and even distant relatives. food was catered, my mom even got ready at a salon (which she never does for any party or even weddings).
roza kushai on the other hand was relatively simply. it was simple because it was unplanned, i just woke at sehri time that one day and decided i was going to fast. all my uncles, aunts and cousins came. i still remember, my cousin who was 1 year older than me was so upset because he still didn't fast yet and i kept rubbing it in his face how my first fast was before him lol.

true...
it's fine if the intention is to have a little party and have a good time but if it is done as a religious obligation for iisaal-e-sawaab [expecting a reward from Allah] then it's not right. there is no sanad [proof] that it was ever a part of our deen.
Re: From 'Bismillah' to 'Roza Kushai'
These are customary things - I had both - Bilmillah & Roza Khushai!
