The only thing I have learned after staying at hotels is not to take my white towel with me.. they take that away and it never comes back 
I have a travel bag ready to go with travel size shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste etc but last time I forgot to check before leaving so we ended up using the hotel complimentary stuff.. it wasn’t as bad as I thought so I picked a few up before leaving as an emergency back up.

I stayed at a hotel that had some really great "gifts" lol. I most especially loved the packets of makeup remover towelettes. As we were leaving the hotel, we passed by a cleaning cart loaded with these lovely things and I took a few packets from it.
I opened one of these packets some days later and began to scrub my eyes and O.M.G. OUCH!!! My eyes were burning like fire!!
I took a few shoe-shining towelettes!!
Cured me forever of helping myself to freegifts!!!
