Re: Former fiancé stops frozen embryos being used for baby
if woman can do abortion on her own wishes..without the father's consent... man has the same right.. he did abortion as well unaturally but he did..
grump :~) - us feminist do have heart and we do like to be fair. It would be unfair for both sides in this situation. I think emotionally if we think we will go with the woman but practially with the man. She can never have her own child now where he can go and made 10 kids etc....
either case its a death of a child....death of emotions, feelings, respect and much more...
Well technically its not a child. Its an embryo. I doubt it has even gone through the stages necessary for it to be a child.
I do not feel for the woman at all. If she did not freeze the embryos and had this accident then she could not have kids either. The fact that she can not have kids can not violate the rights of another human being.
They are not together. They are not married. They are not seeing each other. She has no right whatsoever to ask for this.
What is fair is not violating a man's human rights and forcing him to have a child he does not want. This is coercion. That is a violation of a woman's rights if she is coerced into bed or to have sex or bear a child. The same should apply to men.
Re: Former fiancé stops frozen embryos being used for baby
I feel sorry for the woman. But I do believe that she is being selfish here and its hard not to when u r that desperate with just one last hope. Even if she agrees not to hold the guy liable for any child support etc. she is not thinking about the psychological impact upon the child.
Re: Former fiancé stops frozen embryos being used for baby
:k: very good point…how many guys mpregnate girls and then go away:rolleyes:…
i think this consent issue is disproportionate…why would it need more consent from parents than for a “natural” pregnancy…dads are asked their opinoins few minutes…that’s the way life is:balley:
Re: Former fiancé stops frozen embryos being used for baby
If you guys want to fight for equality, fight for equality, don’t fight for special treatment.
Those who do believe in abortion would argue that if a couple didn’t want to have kids and then accidentally gets pregnant for one reason or another, then its all the woman’s decision to go forward with it or not. So, even if the guy wants to keep the baby, he can’t. And according to US law, the woman can abort the fetus without even telling the father, let alone having his consent. No matter what argument you put forward for it, makes this special treatment, not equality.
Also, those who think this particular woman has the right to use the embryos to have children, I would like to know what would you guys say to the situation, where the man wants to use these same embryos to have a baby through a surrogate mother, while the mother doesn’t want to because she is living happily with her own kids with someone else?

that's exactly what i suggested in my post above:D
Re: Former fiancé stops frozen embryos being used for baby
When a woman is pregnant, the embryo (at least in the first trimester) is not considered as a separate human being. It is for her to do as she chooses with it. It is a very slippery slope if you allow others to control her body.
It is special treatment only because she carries the burden entirely by herself.
Re: Former fiancé stops frozen embryos being used for baby
Aisha, even if everyone agrees on the argument that during the first trimester it is woman’s body and not a person (which not everyone does agree), in this particular case it is not in a woman’s body. It’s an embryo.
Re: Former fiancé stops frozen embryos being used for baby
In this case I would support the father too if he wanted to have this child and the mother did not (as long as someone else would be the surrogate mother)
What I object to is allowing someone else to have the final say in about a woman's pregnancy.
Re: Former fiancé stops frozen embryos being used for baby
maybe they should have read what they were signing when they went for IVF.
If they did not like the rules, she should have changed her mind. As much as I sympathise with her situation, you cant go back and ask for some rule to be changed.
and as far as people whinging about the woman's pregnancy, the embryo is only a few days old as it is frozen, with a moderate chance of it not making it through the thawing process.
and even if it is then implanted in some surrogate, there is less than 30% chance of it even resulting in a pregnancy, and then whether it will be viable.
There is a reason that rules are made, and while some may talk about the "selfishness" of this guy, lets do a little scenario..lets say he broke up with this lady because she had a drug dependency problem or was a child molestor ... and he does not want such a person to be his child's mother... does he not have a right to stop this.
There is no pregnancy, all it is , is some frozen embryos.
