Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
Got a couple of questions.
How much does Citibank charge you for international wire transfers (to Pakistan)? Also, how is the bank itself?
How much does Western Union charge for a wire of say $5000 to a U.S dollar account in a pakistani bank?
Anyone uses Washington Mutual bank? They offer free international wire transfers in addition to a lot of other free things with their checking account.
I have been with Chase bank for many years but having second thoughts.
Don't know the answers to these, but check out UBL Pakistan's website (www.ubl.com.pk). I use them to send money to relatives in Pakistan. They charge $5 to remit the money to either a bank account or to deliver it to the recipient's home.
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
Also ICICI sounds like a good option too. I heard theyre opening branches in Pakistan.

$40.. there is no 'intermediary' bank esp if you have account in Citibank in Pakistan too. Bank is good (the US side), not sure about Pakistani side of the bank :D
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
Open US$ Account in a desi bank in PK & open an account in a desi bank in US. Send from desi to desi bank, wont have any problems since they (Desi Banks) know that pakis send money to PK (thier parents / relatives).
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
What about Western Union? It's a little slow but it's cheaper to send money through them than what my bank charges for wire transer ($19).
if the sendin money is more then a grand , they ask for ya id as well and if WU still hav doubts , they can stop the clearence till look up done on reciever name , thesedays it mostly happen if the reciever 's name starts or have Muhammad , Ahmad , Ali , Hussain , khan and Syed in it .
But if once name clearence done and found alrite , then they will issue a reference no , which should be used in future trans.
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
It sucks that you guys face such issues.

Desi bank in U.S.A? Please give me an example of that.
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
Do what we did. open a citibank account for them that is under yours and their name. That account is attached to your main account. transfer money into their account and they can withdraw using an atm

How do you "attach" a desi account in Pakistan with an account in the U.S? I am litterally confused.
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
^ check with Citibank people, they will explain it, since both accounts will have your name, you will be able to use them interchangeably ("attach").

Can you then open a U.S currency account in Pakistan by visiting a Citibank in the U.S?
Or how about this rather...can you go to a Citibank in Pakistan and cash a check that belongs to an account in a U.S Citibank branch ?
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
^ I don’t think you can do that, you can do that next time you visit Pakistan, go with your father to the Citi branch.
I haven’t tried your 2nd question, that is in my to-do list to test out when I visit Pakistan :insha:
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
Well if that works, there is no need to even open an account in Pakistan right?

Possibly they may give hard time to your father (its Pakistan) if he doesn't have an account there.
Re: Foreign Wire transfer (to Pakistan) flagged
