Overview
The Government of Pakistan, under its national Higher Education Policy, has initiated a unique program to recruit highly qualified faculty from abroad for rendering services in graduate research programs in different public sector universities/institutions in Pakistan. Applicants are invited for positions of Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor in all fields, and particularly in academic disciplines related to science, technology and engineering. The duration of the contract will be at least 1-year, and may be extended.
Goal
The goal of this program is to hire 300 foreign faculty members each year for the next 5 years to fill the vast gap of qualified research academics and Ph.D. supervisors in the higher education sector in Pakistan. Foreign faculty members, who will bring tremendous wealth of knowledge and research experience, will be expected to impart a modern and progressive outlook to research-based academic programmes in Pakistani universities, and would set norms of international academic standards to be emulated by their local colleagues. Furthermore, the project will generate linkages between local and foreign institutions, encouraging long-term sustainable scientific collaborations. Foreign faculty members will be expected to supervise world-class graduate level research and deliver cutting-edge graduate level courses in their academic disciplines. HEC will ensure the provision of funds for supporting graduate students and associated research expenses. In the long-term, the goal is to uplift the graduate programs in Pakistani universities and bring them up to international standards.
Benefits
To attract foreign faculty members, a comprehensive package has been announced, in addition to the various mechanisms already available for procuring research grants, research infrastructure and other support from the HEC. The consolidated salary package for a foreign faculty hired under this program ranges from Pak Rs 150, 000 to Pak Rs. 250, 000 per month (average approximately US $3000 per month).
Professor: Rs 183,750 - 257250 per month (app. 3100 - 4300 US $ per month)
Associate Professor: Rs 120750 - 181125 per month (app. 2000 -3000 US $ per month)
Assistant Professor Rs 78750-136500 per month (app. 1300 -2275 US $ per month)
Can you really get full professors for 4300? Some foreigners of pakistani origin may consider it for non-monetary reasons but isn't it way too low for others?

non-monetary!!! its a hell ot of money considering it been paid in paksitan! how many Indians can ignore $ 4300 per month in India? usually $ 1000 per month is a really good pay in Pakistan.. cost of living in Pakistan is much less in west.. they can even save much more than they were doing in west ..
^ Oh, I guess you'd do alright with 4K monthly and it'd be just fine for a pakistani (or Indian in India). How many non-Desis from an advanced country would come for that?

why we need non-desis? if desis can excel in western countries and leading in most desciplines why not they be an asset in their own countries?
^ Doesn't that simply fly against the very basis of the program? You want foreign faculty but limiting to foreigners of pakistani origin who want to come back to pakistan. You may get a handful but you're limiting the pool to tiny. It's still better than not having though.
The point is that it's an attempt to reverse the brain drain Pakistan's been suffering. That salary may not be much in the West, but in pakistan it would get you a very comfortable lifestyle indeed.

If u check pay scale in most middle East Universities its around same amount for faculty a sbeen offered in this scheme.. foreigners go there since there is no tax along with other facilities.. its not important how much one makes but how much one can save.. cost of living in Paksitan is so less that one can easily save a lot from the above amount..
While it is to reduce the effect of the Brain Dran, I don't think it's Pakistani specific. It's a decent enough salary if they include some added incentoves like in the Middle East it could be a more attractive package,

Exactly. The sum of $4300 is equivelant to some 2.5 lakh rupees - per month. How many Pakistani's get that much in a month let alone a year?
