Yes - what you had was a temporary situation. Your husband, a white collar worker, was gainfully employed - so you knew you would come out of this in one piece. I am sure you will agree that situation is not similar to inner city situation for people living on projects - it is not an apples to apples comparison.
You have to ask why people living in projects are in such situation? Bad choices/decisions in life? On top of that, uploading a child which they KNEW they could not afford and then making that choice with someone who they KNEW was a deadbeat. One bad mistake doesn't land you in projects, its same mistake over and over again which results in them ending up in projects or on welfare.

There are some stats re: about 30% of african american males having spent some time in jail by the time they are say 30. And once you get thrown into jail, recividism rates are high. Many times, you get thrown into jail because you cant afford a good defence lawyer. You must live in a simple world to think that those who end up in projects make bad choices. And ex-cons have it uphill eben after doing their time. Next to impossible to land a job. Minium wages are a disgrace - for decades it was not raised. You try raising a family on mimimum wage.
So do all poor people in desiland also deserve to be poor because they made bad choices? Those of us who are more fortunate need not beat up on those less fortunate.
I cannot respect that there are people who go to the store and pick up tons of FREE FOOD while the rest of us work for what we have. I know many people in the community who have suffered through bad times due to the terrible economy and you know what? Most of us recognized there was a problem and helped them out of our own volition and good will. There was one family particularly down on their luck and the auntie started working in a local store as a cashier, many of us let her do odd jobs for us such as sewing and mending clothes, she and her children gave up their cell phones, cable, internet and the masjid had a fundraiser for them and other families where we collected money and donated food and clothes. No big deal. Go to your near and dear ones if it comes down to it but all this publicc assistance, I cant stand behind.
Most people who are in this situation are not lucky enough to be depending on such kind people. So ya it is kind of a big deal. If they were that lucky, they wouldn't have been in this position to begin with.
So when exactly is it okay to receive help through some sort of public assistance?
There was a nice story told by Leon Pitts. Three men were at a table, wihere 100 eggs were served. The rich man took 99 of the eggs. On the way out, pointing at the poor black man, he told the poor white guy - "be careful of him, he will steal your egg".
