Personally, I’m not that big a fan of white rice. However, it does go well with the following Thai dish, which mainly consists of:

  • White rice
  • Noodles with a touch of soya sauce
  • Small strips of beef marinated with meat tenderizer and a bit of ginger and garlic, mixed in with cut up snow peas and red bell peppers, orange juice, as well as a touch of Thai or Chinese chili garlic sauce (along with salt and pepper)
  • The dish goes well with orange juice as a beverage. If you do try out the recipe, enjoy! :slight_smile:

I like rice as a stand alone dish such as Biryani or Chinese fried rice…not as an side accompaniment to a salan.

One of my Filipino friends had a different way of enjoying white rice .

She used to pour a raw egg in the middle of a plate of rice. then put it in the oven for 20 minutes , sprinkle salt and pepper and some of their local spices and you are good to go. I never liked rice with egg but she said it made a beautiful combination .

Also another thing she used to do with white rice was sprinkle orange juice or pine apple juice and stir fry the rice on high fire , then add a tiny bit more orange juice or Pineapple juice or bits and serve it in the plate along with mangoes ! It was more like a fruit thing , I had tasted that and no doubt it was a unique experience for me. I liked the orange flavoured rice !

try white rice with red kidney beans gravy , its the most awesome combination even better than daal chawal :yummy:

We call red kidney beans ka saalan “Mothee” (it’s in Punjabi) Indians call it Rajmaa and in Urdu it’s laal lobia.

Angel, usually I prepare the basic onion masala , ginger garlic , tomatoes , spices : salt, red chilli powder, turmeric, two tablespoons full of corriander and cumin crush.

Then add in the half boiled beans , bhoon. Add in the water ( from the boiled beans ) and put it on pressure for 20 minutes. finally add in fresh corriander and green chilli and you are good to go :@:

Karhi Pakora and White rice are absolute relish and my top favourite. Other combo I love with white rice is Loki Gosht and Arwi baingan:yummy:.
These I mentioned are my top 3 choices with rice. Other than that we eat following variety with rice

  1. Palak Gosht
  2. Daals (except maash daal)
  3. Band Gobhi (cabbage) Gosht
  4. Chinese beef and chillies

I dont like any shorbay wala salan chicken/mutton/beef with rice at all. basically im more roti lover

My fav combo is white rice with Alo gosht salan
with Chicken salan
with daal
with thai red, green, yellow curry

how about just plain white rice in Desii doodh with a thick layer of malaaii? in my childhood, i used to eat it as dessert. :slight_smile:

My fav combo:

5 pulses and white rice
Moong & masoor with rice
Masoor only with rice

Gobi palak with beef and rice
Methi palak with Qeema and rice

All Chinese curries with rice
Marinated olives with some chutney rice

But the list is long and long

Daal chawal should with some salad and achar aam ko chutney or tamarind chutney
