Re: Floods cripple Pakistan once again, hitting nearly 5 million people
this is terrible. I think donating to the right and trustworthy people who make sure the money is being channeled properly is what all us overseas Pakistanis could do.

Re: Floods cripple Pakistan once again, hitting nearly 5 million people
just cuz of these jahal corrupt politicians, one cant stop donating money to the flood victims!! ... many people hav already stopped donating cuz of these corrupt politcians. i say do ur part and leave the rest to Allah swt.
and best think one can do is donate to non govt organizations such as Edhi and Pakistan Youth Forum! personally, i find them the best!
Iam not against donating money, these people should be helped at any cost, but the govt and their representatives have made it habit or i should i call it "Season" to make money, the more help they get the more they would do to have big floods in coming years..
No steps has been taken in Sindh last year, the flood victims of last year floods were still under suffering when the new floods made the life more difficult not to mention no lessons were learned from last year disaster and no work on ground was done to prevent it this year...
It is now that all politicians have made a move to help these victims, the people are suffering from the beginning of August, No one including the leader of so-called revolution paid any attention to it, and now the call for donations have been made, every one would be looking to shine their politics on the losses of the victim... My appeal to all the donors, Please do not donate to any political party, Only give your money to the foundations like Sahara, Edhi or Pak-Army or the person you trust with your life , these people have not got any political agenda, they help just to help and they make sure your money goes to the needy...
Again Please do not give a single penny of your to Any political party that includes all the political parties, if political parties are that much worried ( after a month since the disaster started) then they should use their own resources, let not make it a habit for these political parties to beg whenever there is disaster...
Help the needy and not the politicians...
Re: Floods cripple Pakistan once again, hitting nearly 5 million people
I completely agree with you!! but sadly, wht I have seen abroad that many Pakistanis and even non Pakistanis have stopped donating money, cuz they know it will go in those politicians pockets.
khair, like you said we all can donate to non govt organizations or to ppl we personally know, they can keep us updated with emails/videos/photos!
Re: Floods cripple Pakistan once again, hitting nearly 5 million people
Nobody with any common sense donates to politicians.
People donate to NGO's with a good reputation, like Edhi.

Re: Floods cripple Pakistan once again, hitting nearly 5 million people
This year’s floods have gradually grown to emergency level due to persistent, torrential downpours concentrated in the south. Of 23 districts in the Sindh Province, 22 have been affected.
According to a recently released United Nations report, an estimated 5.4 million people have been affected so far and 1.1 million homes have been destroyed. Over 300,000 individuals are currently living in relief sites, scattered around the region, and more than 250 people have died.

Flood victims sell possessions, beg
PANGRIO: The family of 12 were relieved when a Pakistani army boat rescued them from flood a week ago. But the hardships have only piled up at a makeshift camp.
**The few family possessions saved from the roaring waters have been sold to buy food. The children have picked up potentially fatal diseases but can’t afford to rest. “The children have been begging in the market to get food and from the passing cars. I just need two things - food and a tent - to protect my children from the sun and the rain,” said Ahmed, 50, one of almost 2 million people displaced by floods. **
It’s a repeat performance of last year, when authorities failed to ease the suffering of millions hit by epic floods in July and August, prompting the military to take charge.
Some 800,000 families hit by that calamity remain homeless.
The army is active again, travelling across kilometres of flooded farmland in boats to rescue people who have just the clothes on their backs. President Asif Ali Zardari was widely criticised for trips to Britain and France last year when Pakistan was battling floods that killed about 2,000 people and made 11 million homeless.
Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, who has been visiting flood victims, said the government could not ease the latest crisis on its own. “The floods from the rains are beyond anyone’s expectations,” he told Reuters in the town of Nawabshah after touring flood-hit areas on Sunday.
“This catastrophe, at the moment, considering the already poor health and nutrition status, is really extremely seriously for the people,” Timo Pakkala, United Nations Resident Humanitarian Coordinator, told in a news conference. He launched an appeal for $356 million for a rapid response plan for three months. Aid groups have warned of a growing risk of fatal diseases.** Ahmed’s youngest child, two-year-old Mansoor Ali, has had diarrhoea and fever for over a week. The private clinic was too expensive. “We don’t have anything else to sell,” said Ahmed. **

**Zardari sets up cell to monitor relief
KARACHI: President Asif Ali Zardari directed the provincial government on Monday to focus its efforts on saving human lives in rain- and flood-affected areas by ensuring an uninterrupted supply of food and safe drinking water to the flood-affected people till their rehabilitation.
A special control room has been also set up in the Bilawal House to keep a watch on relief activities.
The room has been linked to all DCOs and the president will be able to hold video conferences with provincial government officials and DCOs and personally monitor relief and rehabilitation activities. “I will be monitoring the monitors,” the president was quoted as saying.
