First time home buying..

Re: First time home buying..

I once had a short sale transaction that lasted 18 months! :hayaa:

Quickest was 6 weeks! :lajawab:

Re: First time home buying..

though offtopic but how the proper transaction takes place in us…:faizy:
In india for private property when amount is agreed upon…we offer token to property owner…its just token money…very insignificant if compared to value of property…
after that there is official agreement where stamp papers are used…sometimes people register it in setu office where photographs off all the parties related to the transaction are added in these agreements.
these registered agreements have more legal value…
while signing this agreement buyer pay 1/4 to 1/2 amount of property…if he pays 1/2 amount then he gets possession of property…and time limit for final payment and sale are mentioned in this agreement.
and after few months/days the final sale deed is signed on stamp papers and payments are made.
sale deed is signed and registered in setu office and it takes hours as there are so many sales going around…
to sign and register these papers we need a whole day.

P.S.I tried to use full stops…

Re: First time home buying..

$245,000?? Why can't homes be this cheap in NY? This would just be the down payment for a 4 bedroom house here.

Re: First time home buying..

:hinna:

Re: First time home buying..

One of the perks of living in the Lone Star State!!! $300,000 can get you a 4000sqft fully tricked out McMansion in any of Dallas area suburbs! :D

Re: First time home buying..

A few weeks ago I happened to see an episode of House hunters on HGTV.The couple was looking for a house somewhere in the range of $250,000-$275,000 in Missouri.Gosh the houses were awesome. They had walk-in closets in 2 of the bedrooms and they were so huge that they even had windows in them...and and and it had all the fancy shmancy appliances and whatever one would dream for...(I sound like a kid in the candy store..!!).Where I live,in that price range we will find a tootha pootha ghar....:(..and something like that will easily be above $500,000.
I did mention it to a few people that let's move to Missouri...!!

Re: First time home buying..

^ move to Dallas instead!

Re: First time home buying..

Lol chipsy I told my husband about it n tried to convince him as well..:cb:

Khatti…we looked at houses in tx just for *dill pishori \I] and enjoyed looking at bigger n brighter houses..

So for a bank owned property that is on the market for almost a year, Is that common? We are seeing a lot of those n it scares me thinking there must be something about it that it’s not sold yet…

Re: First time home buying..

Very common! The sheer amount of defaulted homes/loans that are sitting idle on the market is mind boggling, especially in areas that were over inflated and hit hard by the real estate bubble bust after 2008-09!

That is what is unique about the Texas market…we never really had that “bust” because our property values were not over inflated so rapidly..it’s slow and steady wins the race down here!

Even so, it’s still very much a buyer’s market here, meaning there is more inventory available than qualified buyers!

Re: First time home buying..

Are you serious?

Re: First time home buying..

dang I am so moving to dallas.

Well, coincidentally this morning, I was trying to convince Niks to move to Houston because my company has a job opening which is like tailor made for me and I know that I can secure that position. But wifey is not willing to leave her beautiful northewest :D

Re: First time home buying..

Yea, unfortunately, we may have dirt cheap housing and an amazingly low cost of living here, but purrdy it ain’t!!! No mountains, no water, no natural beauty to speak of :teary2: We are definately a flat, landlocked mecca of shopping, restaraunts and big houses. :vivo:

And we stuck up Dallasites consider H-Town to be as thug as it gets :snooty:

Tell Niks if she agrees to move to Houston, I’ll make the 3 1/2 drive down everymonth to hang out with her and cook for her and be her bestie

Wait…I think I may have just changed your mind :smack:

Re: First time home buying..

sounds like heaven for me.

Uff I swear, when I ever get a license to drive, it will open up rest of country for me :hinna:

Re: First time home buying..

Funny you say that Sara, as a born and raised Dallasite who has lived in the same 20 mile radius her entire life, I crave, no lemme rephrase that, am infatuated with the bright lights, public transportation, and walkability that in NYC…lol!!! If I could ever affort to live in the city, I’d be there in a heartbeat…

I guess the grass is always greener on the other side, right?

Re: First time home buying..

Lol for what your house in dallas costs, u could probably get a bedroom here in NY :vivo:

Re: First time home buying..

^^The perks of living in NY & neighboring states...:D

I still cannot stop thinking about the house I saw on TV with walk in closets and windows in them....so so big.I will never have storage issues ever again if I live there..!!

Re: First time home buying..

I thought neighboring states are cheaper. :frowning:

my husband brings it up all the time that for the amount of rent we pay here, he can get a multi-room/bathroom apartment with full utilities in canada (and maybe a freakin mcmansion in , like, alberta or saskaetchwan) :halo:

Re: First time home buying..

My husband is obsessed about moving to Sugarland, Texas! Apparently it's a great Houston suburb and there are tons of 'educated' desis there! We are also looking for a house in NY these days but when we see a 5 bedroom mansion with a luxurious pool for only $400,000 in Sugarland, we are so tempted to pack our bags and go there. But all our family is in NY and neighboring states so we are pretty much stuck here. The cost of living is soooo high here! Property taxes are over the roof in Long Island and Westchester which makes me wonder people down south and in the Midwest must be floating in money given the cheap housing and low cost of living!
