Re: First Birthday Present
^^ there you go CA, She might not comprehend the exact words or the exact story but her talk in her own language (lol) can be her interpretation to those pictures, she might be making up her own story using them. Many kids do this. Honestly if you talk with a childcare professional, they will tell you to keep reading them, show them pictures from the story books and encourage them to talk about it and respond to it even if you don't understand them. You are right that every child is different but never stop reading to them even if they don't sit at one place. They should have variety of books to go through, look over the pictures, and make their own interpretations. Eventually they will start recognizing the words as well.
wow lusi, thanks...the last part of your msg really makes sense. I guess it's time for me to send her some audio books with colorful pics in them.....I hope she's gonna enjoy them(other than tearing them apart). :)
Re: First Birthday Present
wonderful idea…whoever came up with it!
audio books…why didnt I think of that
perfect for a one yr old.
In fact I bought the LITTLE LEAP read along thing (sorry cant remember the name) for my nephew who is a little over 1 yrs old…he seems to like it.
btw CA…did you know that you can start to read to your child as early as 1 month? yea i know it sounds crazy but believe it or not they are listening to you and it helps them form sounds and words a lot quicker then those children who are never read to. Also they’ll develop a love for books the more you read to them…even if they are squirming around in the beginning. ![]()

the LITTLE LEAP read along books are tear proof...or you can get board books which would be best for a child under 2 because they will tear the pages apart if it's anything else.
Re: First Birthday Present
The audio books are such a good idea! I already got her a set of books with fuzzy finger puppet characters. But I may get something else to go with it.
Re: First Birthday Present
Thanks Angel!
Sahar, if you don't mind can you please the titles of the books you bought for your friend's daughter? Thanks so much in advance!
Re: First Birthday Present
Ok, I think I’m gonna get these for my niece.
Re: First Birthday Present
CA…this is what i was talking about…it’s really a good product.
Re: First Birthday Present
CA, these are really good books. Also if you at Borders or Barnes and Nobles, check their bargain buy section. You will find some really good books for very cheap price.
Re: First Birthday Present
its for slightly older kids though, the reviews say… not necessarily for a 1 year old.
Re: First Birthday Present
^ there is another version of the one i posted above that is "my first little touch leap pad" (didnt find it on that site) which is more appropriate for 1 yr olds. Regardless parents should sit with the child and read along with them.... eventually they will learn how to do it on their own.
