I think even the minority who do say they support OBL and AQ, only say it out of anger and frustration at the USA/Israel/Indian etc. goverments rather than out of religious conviction that he's fighting for God's cause or that following him will get them nymphs in Paradise, like the media claims. Their motivations are political and emotional rather than religious.
If Islamic doctrine is followed then that forbids killing non-combatant civillians, animals, trees/plants during war and comitting suicide.
