This wasn’t for citizenship though - this was for a work permit. I’m a British citizen who formerly had permanent residence in Canada, and the Canadians still very aggressively questioned my work permit application when I went to resolve the paperwork. And that was despite a Fortune 100 company sponsoring my work permit.
