Its saddening. He should not have let it come to this point. He could have managed the whole saga better. And if he was coming across resistance from the other 4 ECs, he should have spoken up about it during the general elections…because they were far more important than the presidential election. ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Fakhruddin G Ebrahim has tendered his resignation.
Ebrahim a former Supreme Court judge was appointed as the CEC on 23 July 2012. The May 11 general elections and the presidential election were conducted during his tenure.
It is being reported that several factors attributed to Ebrahim’s resignation including criticism regarding rigging during the general elections and the recent change in the polling date for the presidential election.
Objection of Fakhru to change the date of elections from 6th Aug to 30 July validates that Supreme court overstepped its mandate. There should be some accountability when SC itself oversteps constitution.
