Reminds me of how I grew up hearing people say…“Drink milk…and you will be white like milk. See that kid who was dark before…became light by drinking milk.”
I responded with “But I DO drink milk. I really DO. You KNOW that. I drink it EVERY DAY…and TWICE!”
To which I got: “Yeah but you’re brown because you drink chocolate milk.” 
(that just broke my little kiddie heart)
