hahaha
I think the movie will be a great hit (among Bush-haters anyway). Though August would have been a better month to release it in US, the perfect time before November. hehe

'9/11' Shows Iraqi Prisoner Abuse, Gets R Rating
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore had footage of the U.S. soldiers' mistreatment of Iraqi captives, but was unsure about releasing the evidence to the media.
"I had it months before the story broke on '60 Minutes,' and I really struggled with what to do with it," Moore tells the San Francisco Chronicle. "I wanted to come out with it sooner, but I thought I'd be accused of just putting this out for publicity for my movie. That prevented me from making maybe the right decision."
The footage, which will be featured in Moore's documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11," is similar to the pictures from Abu Ghraib prison and shows GIs laughing as they photograph each other while hooding Iraqi captives.
Moore adds, "The stuff with the detainees in my movie is even more shocking than what we saw in that prison because it happens outdoors and is more commonplace."
"Fahrenheit" won the top prize at May's Cannes Film Festival for its highly critical look at President George W. Bush's connections with high-ranking Saudis and his hawkish Iraq policies. Recently, the filmmaker had claimed his next film would target British Prime Minister Tony Blair's role in the Iraq war, but is now denying this plan.
A statement on Moore's website posted on Sunday (June 13) reads, "Some news organizations are reporting that Michael is making a new film on Tony Blair. This is not true. Let us repeat -- THIS IS NOT TRUE. Michael made a joke about his next film being about Tony Blair in an interview and, apparently, it was taken seriously."
The Motion Picture Association of America, however, is taking "Fahrenheit" seriously. The group recently gave the film an R rating for "violent and disturbing images and for language," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Distributors Lions Gate Films and IFC Films will appeal the rating, which requires anyone under 17 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Says Moore, "It is sadly very possible that many 15- and 16-year-olds will be asked and recruited to serve in Iraq in the next couple of years. If they are old enough to be recruited and capable of being in combat and risking their lives, they certainly deserve the right to see what is going on in Iraq."
"Fahrenheit" is set to open in theaters nationwide on Friday, June 25.
I don't think its coming to british cenimas any sooner.
moores an interesting character. a grandstander but gutsy to say the least. He cashed in bigtime with his two very controversial but hillarious books....Dude wheres my country was probably a little off the wall but all in all this guys probably a good Hollywood spokesman for anti-government period. A MUST SEE
The amount of media exposure and free advertising this film has gotten is quite amazing. The decision by Disney not to release the film inlayed made it that more popular and the additional attention of those who are trying to stop the film from being shown has only added to the hype surrounding it. Kudos to Moore.
I'm planning on seeing this opening night, any other takers?
Just saw a brief preview on CBC- its sounds rather interesting.
Ads for Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 movie could be stopped by FEC on July 30
http://www.thehill.com/news/062404/moore.aspx
Michael Moore may be prevented from advertising his controversial new movie, “Fahrenheit 9/11,” on television or radio after July 30 if the Federal Election Commission (FEC) today accepts the legal advice of its general counsel.
At the same time, a Republican-allied 527 soft-money group is preparing to file a complaint against Moore’s film with the FEC for violating campaign-finance law.
In a draft advisory opinion placed on the FEC’s agenda for today’s meeting, the agency’s general counsel states that political documentary filmmakers may not air television or radio ads referring to federal candidates within 30 days of a primary election or 60 days of a general election.
The opinion is generated under the new McCain-Feingold campaign-finance law, which prohibits corporate-funded ads that identify a federal candidate before a primary or general election.
(there’s more)
Well - here we go. Round two.
Like i the first time around - trying to prevent Moore from saying what he has to say, trying to hold back his books, his films -- this just generates more interest for his work.
they won't be able to prevent the movie from being screened or trailers from being shown - they will, however, help to propel this film to being #1 documentary of the year sooner than expected.
Why not allow people to view the film and make up their own minds?
Democracy Hello?
It was supposed to be released on 25th.. no?
I already got 3 tickets for tomorrow :)
^ Ok, Tell us how was it!
oh so it is coming out this weekend!! I'll have to catch it next week then :) cool!
I read that it's going to be shown in 868 cinemas across the USA from today.
Hey I saw the movie on opening day last night. Two whole theaters were packed so they had to open a third theater in which my and my friends sat in.
A documentary from the election of 2000 through the four years of Bush's presidency showing all his mistakes and his stupidity. Bush never should have won the election it was Fox News that said he won, and it happened to be that Bush's cousin from Fox made the statement. So Bush won the election from his cousin in Fox. Not only that though a group of African Americans and other people in Florida voted, but the vote counters didn't count them because the counters were on Bush's side and the didn't want those people voting against him.
Bush is shown vacationing the whole time after winning his election, and when questioned on what work he is doing nowadays, it was obvious that the job was just vacation 2 him. (I thought being the president was a hard job)
After 9/11 when the movie shows the troops being sent to Afghanistan.
Cont.
They show a peaceful scene in Iraq: kids riding bikes, playing with friends, happy mothers watching, etc. (very peaceful) After the scene Bush is shown making a speech on freeing Iraq and disarming there so called "weapons of mass destruction".
As troops are sent the happy scene in Iraq turns to chaos. The damn troops break in houses arresting different men for no good reason as the women of the house cry and ask what they have done (they have done nothing).
As Donald Rumsfeld is making a speech on how precise their missiles are. Poor Iraqis are shown lifting the corpes of dead inoccent civilians.
Iraqi prison abuse is also shown. And the economy crisis in US.
The film is packed with funny scenes of the government including George Bush saying and doing stupid things. It will be a miracle if Bush gets reelected, or if people cheat for him again.
The film got a big applause in my theater and turned out great. Everyone should see it and support Michael Moore.
^^
Hey why don’t you post the whole script here so we don’t need to watch the movie anymore? ![]()
Ditto, the film got a standing ovation in my theatre and people were lined up one hour in advance to get good seats. It will make you laugh, cry and think. Consider it your duty as a citizen to watch this movie, agree or disagree, it's a point of view that simply has not been heard.
We took the kids to see Harry Potter yesterday, and gosh! the lines for Farenheit 9-11 were unbelievable. We went to a 20-theatre multi-plex and they had devoted four theatres to ‘Farenheit’, and even they were all sold out. At 10:45 pm, the line for ticket holders standing for 12:45 am show was like half a mile long. The movie is truly a phenomenon here, though understandable cz this is California ![]()
