If one goes by ratings and ad revenue, the show is still not doing too badly. Its been on for 10 years, so its obvious some of the original fans would drop off (mature?), but then new ones take their place. Thats the mark of a successful show.
I don't like all that much, but I don't think its all that bad either.

yes exactly, still "not doing too badly" is not the same thing as the show is doing well.
but quality of a program is not always defined by viewership, quantity is..and yes there is a quality/quantity balance, because the thing has to be halfway decent for people to watch it. But is it as good as it was?
Simply put friends in 2004 is very boring compared to friends in 2001. das what I mean mate.

‘Boring’ is a subjective term 
For you its boring in 2004, and that is fine, cz its a personal opinion. The advertisers dishing out 2 mil / 30 secs obviously hope a lot of people disagree. And its that lot of people (millions of them) that will decide whether the program is successful or not. Ofcourse, those who consider it boring may not find it worth watching.
ps. Isn’t it still one of the most top-rated shows in Thursday’s time slot? Check this out

P.S isnt the show ending… must be some reason.. it has run out of steam, is not sustainable, and ppl involved are getting out while they still can. they did not quit at the peak, they are quitting at a downward slope which is still at a respectable point, but is on a downward trajectory. good business decision..

Rachel will decide not to go to France, or ross will go with her, no wedding finale from what I hear but they kinda hook up..not sure if the hook up is conclusive enough
those other 2 will find out that the girl whose baby theya re adopting is having twins.
dunno if there is anything new on Joey and Phoebe front.. Joey maybe moved for some career thing to the west coast (for the spin off later i presume)

whatever opinion ppl may have about friends NOW, the truth is that it has been a phenomenal sitcom and a trend setter. it becoming a bitboring or predictable after 10 yrs has nothing to do with the greatness of the show. many new programs and their actors actually try to copy the friends stars and the scripts etc are on that pattern with the same kind of comedy. so agree or not, friends has been a milestone, a trend setter a phenomenon in the showbiz world particulary the tv and sitcom industry.
other sitcoms will reflect friends for years to come.
i love the program and it will remain my favourite forever. the characters are great, the writers and actors brilliant!

Just love the whole show - Monica and her neuroticism, Ross and his geekiness - Rachel and her sarcasm - Chandler and his jokes - Phoebe and her excentricity - and Joey with his eating habits, one night stand!
this sitcom has been popoluar because it focuses on 6 people - and there can always be one you relate to or like more than the other.
Yeah, well, the reruns will last you a life-time.. .so don't cry too much. :-P

Friends seasons was at its best when Joey and Chandler were roomates..after that, the show gradually turned into to a soap opera. Too much crying..love triangle..drama..and less comedy..Over all Friends is one of the best sitcoms ever. Each character is amazingly funny!
