Here are some suggestions from the son of an eye doc – please take them if they make sense to you. Otherwise, they could be discarded without worry.

Please check whether your correction is + (plus) or – (minus) and Sph (Spherical) or Cyl (Cylindrical) as all of these are different types of corrections. You could even have a combination of these called a compound correction but that is unlikely as you have just a 0.50 D correction

A Sph correction is an overall inability to focus properly, a minus at long distances and a plus makes reading and near vision difficult. A Cyl correction is an irregularity on the surface of the eyes that makes seeing at a particular angle difficult, from 0 to 180 degrees

Sph corrections are usually a part of your genetic makeup and you may have had the correction from a young age but may not have noticed it until recently if you have a Sph correction. A Cyl correction could be stress induced if you have had severe physical strain recently with an inability to get proper sleep, or, it could have come if you were born by forceps or Caeserean delivery (no one knows why but people born by these methods are more prone to getting Cyl corrections than those who are born by a natural delivery) or, it may also be a genetic factor. In any case, eating extra carrots or fish will not make any difference. If you eat a healthy meal with adequate quantities of meat, eggs, vegetables and fruit, you should be fine. Excess vitamins would only go out of the body in sweat or urine. If you must, then have a good multivitamin supplement after consulting with your doctor. Excess vitamins from natural as well as synthetic sources can actually harm you

If you want to wear spectacles, there are several options that would make them light on your nose. Buy a frame made of titanium, or, if you like thicker plastic frames (which are in fashion with working women these days) then buy one made from Optyl resin. For lenses, get yourself Polycarbonate Lenses instead of the regular CR 39 Plastic. If you want to cosmetically disguise the lenses to make them look like sunglasses, then get yourself Corning Sun Sensors or Transitions photochromatic lenses which change color depending on light conditions. If you wear these, many people may not know that you are wearing prescription spectacles. Also, if you like to wear large frames, then get the lenses Anti Reflection coated. That would hide the edge thickness if you wear a minus correction. AR coatings have an additional advantage in that they let more light pass through a photochromatic lens and make it darken slightly more in the sun giving you more protection

If you want to wear contact lenses, please spend an additional $ 150 or so and get an Ophthalmologist to give you a sensitivity test, for 1 hour on one day and for 6 hours on a subsequent day. There is a trend to sell contact lenses without doing any trial in much of the world – the USA is guilty of this as well – but about 12% of all people are allergic to Poly Hydroxyl Methacrylate the material from which most contact lenses are made and some are also allergic to Cellulose Acetate Butyrate, another material for contact lenses, though CAB is not as much used these days as Poly HEMA

Please remember that EVERYONE needs reading glasses after the age of 38 to 43 – some need them a little early and others at 43 but from then on they have to wear spectacles for reading fine print for the rest of their lives. No one can avoid this unless they require a -3.00 D correction or higher for regular use, when the minus correction compensates when they read. There is nothing to be ashamed of in wearing spectacles – just enjoy using them like any other fashion accessory and in no time you’ll even forget that you have them on while you wear them. Make sure that you get adequate rest – about 7 to 8 hours in a 24 hour period and if you cannot get this during the week, try to catch up at weekends. Good luck!

Arghhhhhhh i m so sad...i got my eyesight tested cuz of the recent headaches i have been havin...n i found out that i need 2 wear the glassess...i so dont want 2.......i hate it..........my number is low but still...its .5 only but i still have 2 wear it..........god i dun know wat m i gonna do abt it......i went 2 try some frames 2day and the guy there read my prescription n said my eyesight is alrite but its the eye muscles which r not working 2 well cuz of which i wl need 2 wear the glasses.....m so sad.....he said u can get lenses after some time but for starter u wl have 2 wear the glasses.......wat shud i do? i m so sad cuz every other month there is somethin wrong with me :(...people here mite find it funnie n all like evry1 else is tellin me in person...cuz they say its such a low number n u dun need 2 worrie n maybe after a good use of few months u can get rid ofthe glassess....but i m sad cuz if i get rid of 1 of my problem such as acne...something else comes up......so i alwayz wonder why me? :(

no matter how small the number u shud always wear em. i also started off with -0.5 and i had to wear them for reading and watching TV, but i didnt use to wear em and my eyesight got worse and now I have to wear them permanently and now its -3.5 :(
