See I NEVER buy any make-up without trying it on the store first.
1) Since you’re such a eye shadow/make-up freak like me…check out makeupalley.com. If you register there(free) and read the product reviews, you’ll see hundreads of products reviews on almost every brand out there. You also get ideas on color combinations and just other little tips on make stuff from there. There are TONS of MAC shadow reviews there along with almost every brand out there.
2) To be totally honest with you, I usually mix Trax and Greensmoke with other colors. Usually put them on the outer edges. If I’m not careful, they make my eye look bruised. But I’ve seen(and heard) others do amazing smokey eye look using those shades. I figure since you’re so good with eye makeup already, I’m sure your’s will turn out gorgeous. 
3) When you’re in the store, also try out “Rule” and “Coppering”. Especially with Rule, don’t let the pot color scare you. 
Also try “Stars N Rockets”.
4) The MAC store that I go to, if you buy any product from them and don’t like it once you take it home, they will do a full refund or exchange the product within 30 days with a receipt. I’m assuming all MAC stores should have the same policy. Check with the one you go to…b/c if they’re also willing to do returns and exchanges, that gives you a lot more room to take home colors and play with them. So far I exchanged one MAC shadow(Returned “Freshwater” and got “Tilt”…I suck as working w/ blues) and there was no hassle at all.
