This. A couple of years ago, I turned down a more senior, better paying position because I was afraid that if I accepted it, I’d be pigeon-holed professionally. I took a job that actually paid less and was more junior, but offered me greater professional growth opportunity. I have zero regrets since it has since paid off, m’A.
I recently met the man who offered me the higher paying job and would have been my reporting manager - today, he’s my counterpart.
Would I do the same thing today? No - because now it’s no longer about the experience, it’s about career advancement.
