Something like the alternatve art event sounds totally my thing! nothing can compare to london but i guess its hard not being part of UoL to get into certain events but i wil have a look definately!

well the new academic year is starting soon, so there's bound to be stuff coming up. if i come across anything that sounds like it might interest you, i'll pm you.
pps = political philosophy society. my brother was the vice chair of imperial pps and they had some quite high-profile events this year.
i'm sure you'll be fine. willingness to try new things and meet new people is half the battle won :)
