I wasn't referring to marrying children or even following scripture, but mimicking the lifestyle of the prophet and the mores of his times (hadith) in which many of the practices are cultural based and not spritual.

Mimicking is probably the wrong word..guidance is the intent of hadith. Following traditions without using intellect is not encouraged.

To those of us in the know, there are only SOME aspects of the prophet’s life that we mimic. I don’t see Muslims bending over backwards to ride hoarses or camels, for example…
Typically, those things the prophet (saw) encouraged we tend to take a shine to - beard is an example. Others are considered manditory (such as personal hygene) because of the emphasis placed on them. Others, such as the fact that the Prophet (saw) had long hair to the neck, and tied in three locks, is simply ignored as it was never pointed out by the Prophet(saw) himself…

It helps to read the title of the topic dude. We are discusing that all religions have weaknesses. It is you who has jumped onto the bandwagon saying that Islam does'nt have any weaknesses. Why are you talking about hinduism to me. I am a Catholic. Talk about failings in Christanity and let us argue on them. I accept that there are certain weaknesses in Christanity too..
I asked one more question of you.If you dont have the courage to answer that question, let us not discuss that...
Coming back to the topic, most of the posters have passionately argued that what has happened is right and one does need to be apologetic about the same.
I have some sub questions for the afore mentioned question
1) Is a 6 year old capable of deciding for herself who her life partner should be.
2) True her father's consent was taken, but then do you think it is right in the modern context..
3) The consummation of the marriage happened, just when she reached puberty.
Do you really think that it was right. (yes or no would do)
4) Would'nt there be compatibility issues.

all religions have weaknesses because they are all man made. Man cannot create anything perfect, and God never wrote a book because he is not interested in forcing his will on others.

the reason we follow any religion/book is because we believe that to be the word of God,why should anyone follow a man-made religion?

Let’s see, first God creates us, then tells us his will in a roundabout way so he can wait for us to trip up and start judging us!?

You consider someone talking of what to do wit slave women and captives, perfection?
The main reason why none of the old religions are perfect is because if you gave this assignment to an intelligent philosopher today, he/she would come up with a religion far more perfect. Just proves old religions cannot be the word of God in entirety. In any case the golden rule is the simplest and best form of ‘religion’ anyone can follow. Find me a better line in Islam.

What differentiates from a simple philosophy from “divine revealed religion” in your opinion? Or do you believe that there is no such entity as God to begin with?

Jesus, Allah, Ram, Bhudha etc- are different names for the same ONE GOD.
Religions are made by humans, wise people wrote them to show us a path to follow to GOD.
These religions are different paths to the same GOD.
For centuries we humans have been killing each other in the 'name of God' trying to convert the other to follow their path.

I believe in God. There is no difference between good simple philosophy and divine inspiration. Your heart and mind should tell yo what is true and what is false. I have read many different saints and philosophers who say that after yrs of searching they saw God (or heard/felt something divine) and the msg they got was not rocket science but something extremely easy like ‘live in love’ or ‘be love’.
Do you feel a philosophy is worth following only if it has complicated rules and a how-to manual for daily life? A brand name? ( i hope you’ll answer instead of only asking:) )

well i meant the main religions like Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism. People mostly fight over and about these, and believe that prophets have stopped coming after so-and-so BC or AD. That can’t be rational since evolution is an on going process.
