Re: Environmental Inventory
south is right,
1) first world countries need to set better examples because as other countries start doing better they will face the same challenges and may not be able to cope with the sudden rise of issues whether they are air quality related, or water or land quality related. If Pakistan was manufacturing more than it is, it will do a number on the environment for people around there.
2) consumption has an impact on those producing to feed that consumption, at all places involved if there are no good control processes in place.
Even now if you look at industrial refuse from tanneries and mills in Pakistan, you will be astonished at what is going on.
One big issue I professionally dealt with was throw away crap sold at dollar stores, built cheaply in places like china..with high levels of hazardous substances, it would do a number on people using it here, and the people around the factories churning these products out.
even for more expensive stuff, if i toss a LCD screen in a landfill not only is it doing a number on the environment at the point of consumption and disposal, it is creating huge issues at the point of manufacturing, base materials, components, sub assembles and final products. The impact in these industrial factory villages in China is crazy, and if you follow the supply chain, you will see same issues in places in malaysia, phillipines etc.
