England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

SL's lead is 126 runs with 2 wicktes & 55 overs remaining

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

Any Chee-Lankans pankhay in the house? Yes, I hear? :p

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord’s May 11-15

I would like SL to beat Eng. But Eng should blame themselves, they dropped many chances and it costed them 172 runs and precious time.

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

Couple of sixes for Kulasekara off Monty :). Kulasekara reaches 50 and SL's lead is now 146.

179.1 Panesar to Kulasekara, SIX, Another slog-sweep for a six! and whats more that's fifty for Kulasekara. a priceless gritty knock from the tailender. Vaas gets across and embraces him even as the entire Sri Lankan team stand up and applaud at the dressing room.

177.1 Panesar to Kulasekara, SIX, OMG! slog-sweep for a audacious six! tossed on the middle stump, Kulasekara goes down on one knee and hoicks it over midwicket fence.

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord’s May 11-15

Good grief. Eight dropped catches in a matter of four and a half days?

I wonder if the arrival of Jonty will do any wonders for our team.

Climax to all-new heights! Even the editor is caught by surprise as with the inclusion of “OMG!” up above.

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord’s May 11-15

:konfused: array bhai yeh kia ho ria ai ?

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

192.3 Hoggard to Kulasekara, OUT, third time lucky! Hoggard once again bangs it in short and this time Kulasekara falls right in the trap, a nothing pull and the resultant top-edge flies down to deep midwicket and much to the delight of the England fans, Pietersen judges it to perfection, that's a crucial wicket!

Bad light once again!

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

So they are back in the middle

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

Eng keep on dropping catches. I don't think they can win now. 175 runs off 25 overs, req run rate of 7 with bad light and chances of rain. Still SL's last pair is out there :)

195.5 Mahmood to Vaas, 1 run, dropped! again! oh my god! can you believe it?! Full and outside off, Vaas, without moving his feet, goes for a square drive and Collingwood at gully jumps to reach a ball going over his head, but fails to hold on. Yet again England flirting with victory but unable to woo it over.

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord’s May 11-15

Sri Lanka 192 & 533/9 (197.2 ov)

SL lead by174, 24.4 overs remaining for the day, seems like they have managed (with help of English fielders) the draw! Bravo bravo

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

If English can manage to dismiss this last pair, Trescothick and Pieterson should open the attack from the other end. Cook can remain cooked in the dressing room as long as victory is in sight...

...As long as victory is in sight.

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

Bad light again :p

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

If memory serves, almost a similar situation was encountered last month during the first test match between India vs. England at Nagpur. Chasing the target of 368 runs, they fell 108 runs short of the target as Dravid admitted in a post-match presentation that they should have started the run-chase 40 minutes prior to lunch (instead of going ballistic midway post-lunch session).

England can always manage to play for a draw, but the win should take priority. Hence, Pieterson should open the innings, at all costs. Losing is not an option (although when ten catches are dropped in a matter of five days, the support is automatically shifted towards the under-dogs).

These last two days, Sri Lankans have given England a run for their money on their own home turf. Lesson to be learnt!

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

And the bad light has been offered! and off they go. Quite a picture this: Two happy Sri Lankans and 11 dejected Englishmen troop off. It has been a gripping game so far and it's not over yet. No official announcement has been made yet but one gets the feeling that Sri Lanka have done enough to draw this game. It's dark and murky at Lord's and if it stays like this, it could well be curtains on what has been an enthralling game. Stay tuned for further updates

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

The clock has now run out.

Ehsan Bhai, will you be attending the next test match in Edgbaston? Few of the GupShup members have already booked their seats, I'd reckon.

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

^ I might go on saturday or sunday.

The match has been drawn. No one has mentioned one thing which if the Paksitani team had done it we would have been hanging them all over GS. English players dropped 9 catches in the second innings, some of them really simple ones.

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

So much for the awesome English bowling attack. The England team seemed to have taken a page from Pakistan's book, that was a pathetic fielding performance. Brought back many bad memories :(

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

So much for wonderful Test match, Hopefully it will be a different performance from both the teams in the 2nd test match, morale booster for Srilanka in the form of Jaysuriya and as for England I guess they will have to take their game a notch up, since this is their backyard, unless this is southasian ground where a tail ender can make a century without any difficulty, and hopefully a result will be on the cards next time around

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

Me thinks a draw is also considered as one of the results, so there is always a third option available. :p

Re: England v Sri Lanka - 1st Test Lord's May 11-15

certainly it is an option Dhobi Bhai, but the way match see-saw I think many of us were inclined to the other options, nahi?
