<*> England in West Indies 2003-04 <*>

:hehe: What an ironic twist of fate for the Windies. I was surfing channels and caught a glimpse of the match @ 19-5. By the time I came back to the channel, West Indies were all out and England had just started batting, and I dont know how to explain what I feel. Indifferent. Sad. Disgusted. Mad. Funny. All at the same time. :konfused:

:flower2: scorecard @ end of test match :flower2:

wohooo, that Harmisson yesterday was just :k:.

i was in the same state of confusion - i mean how on earth West Indies bowled out like that? and that too against a bowler who has never a match winner until now.

i knew that the day 4 will be most crucial - but i never expected that the match will be decided before the lunch! Lara had dislocated the right little finger in the 1st innning so it was sure that he won’t be a factor in the 2nd - but i never expected Gayle, Sarwan and Chanderpaul to perform low - certainly West Indies side has made Harmison from zero to HERO! he is gonna get hype as Jimmy got!

anyhow - the win was very much needed for English side since they had a bad tour of Sri Lanka last year.

Onto second test match.

Harmison blastoff West Indies again - 5 for 48 runs in 17 overs - and got Brian Lara on Duck!

at the moment West Indies 167/7 - things are looking pretty bad for them!

They are joining the elite class (or not) of Zimbabwe, Bangladesh etc.

well here you go - the English veterans (Thorpe, Butcher and Hussain) rescued England - to be perfectly honest - it's not easy to play at Trinidad - however the England side has managed itself ever since been sent on the backfoot.

at the moment without Brian Lara 100% fit - yes West Indies is pretty much the class of Zimbabwe, Bangladesh

ladies and gentlemen - England is on the course of second test win! :D

*On Day 5 - England require another 28 runs with 8 wickets remaining! *

:D

England won the second test - and now they are on the course of winning the thrid one as well - Matthew Hoggard has his first ever test hat-trick.

England needs only 92 runs to win the 3rd test match - and the series as well.

England march into history books](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/040403/3/30a8.html)

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (AFP) - Mark Butcher flicked a no-ball from Pedro Collins through backward square leg that earned England two runs to ensure an eight-wicket victory and end their 36-year wait for a Test series victory in the Caribbean on the third day of the third Test against West Indies.

Michael Vaughan’s side took an unbeatable 3-0 lead in the four-Test series, after the West Indies, trailing England by two runs on first innings, were dismissed for 94 in their second innings to set the visitors the modest target of 93 for victory.

They achieved the magic number for the loss of Vaughan and left-hander Marcus Trescothick.

“The elation of all the supporters and the elation of all our team and the way you can see in their eyes how much it meant to everyone made it all worth the hard work,” Vaughan said who becomes the first England skipper since the legendary Colin Cowdrey in 1968 to win a series here.

"This means a lot to the guys in our dressing room because everyone has put in so much hard work. It could have gone either way and was closer than the previous two Tests.

"We always thought the first session would have been crucial and, if we got on top, who knows what could happen. Once we got one wicket, we could sense something special was going to happen.

“But we never felt it was going to be 90-odd and we will be chasing a target by the end of the day. It was fantastic cricket really.”

Matthew Hoggard with four wickets, including a hat trick, was England’s hero as he triggered another inexplicable batting collapse from West Indies to provide England with the platform for the result.

Hoggard removed Daren Ganga, West Indies vice captain Ramnaresh Sarwan as well as left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ryan Hinds - the last three for the milestone - in a destructive opening spell during the morning period.

Hoggard ended with four wickets for 35 runs from 14 overs, Steve Harmison captured three for 34 from 15.1 overs, and Andrew Flintoff took two for 20 from 13 overs.

After rain prompted an early lunch and West Indies continued from 58 for six, England made inroads into the latter half of the home team’s batting, but Brian Lara stood between them.

When Steve Harmison had the West Indies captain caught at midwicket for the top score of 33 about 10 minutes prior to the rescheduled tea break, England knew they were well and truly on the road to their history-makindg moment.

“It is very hard to put into words how the team feels because it’s been a pretty long time since England won a Test series in the Caribbean,” Lara said.

“Now it’s a matter of picking ourselves up. It hurts a lot. We have another Test starting very soon. We have to regroup and get our emotions in place and get ready to do battle again.”

After lunch, Tino Best spent just over an hour with Lara to add 32 for the seventh wicket, but was caught at first slip for 12 off Flintoff, to leave West Indies 80 for seven.

Although rain stalled England’s progress, it was only a matter of time before the end came.

Earlier, West Indies continued form their overnight position of 21 for one, Hoggard made the breakthrough when Ganga was caught at third slip for 11.

But it all started to unravel for West when Hoggard sent West Indies vice captain Sarwan, Chanderpaul and Hinds packing to claim the hat trick.

Sarwan sliced a drive and was caught at gully for five, Chanderpaul was trapped on the crease and lbw for zero, then Hinds edged to second slip playing defensively forward to leave West Indies 45 for six.

Result England won by eight wickets

England had to wait 36 years for this triumph - excellent! i have to say there will be alot of heat on Brian Lara since his second-time as a skipper has led West Indies to a new low

however - Lara is not alone to blame - Chanderpaul, Hinds, Chris Gayle, Sarwan - all of them have failed to deliver - i wouldn't be surprised if West Indies side gets whitewashed - maybe they began to play 4th test match with the same passion as they did against Aussies?

Why did Hooper go? was it his age? :konfused: I thought WI was doing better with him as skipper.

Hooper is playing county cricket Captain1 - i m not positive about what happened to Hooper after world cup - i think he was sacked as a skipper.

anyhow - West Indies has have dropped batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul - his replacement is uncapped Antiguan Sylvester Joseph!

Crowds Booing Aleem Daar

4.3 Collins to Vaughan, OUT: there's an appeal (presumably for the
catch) and Vaughan is given out, but the replay suggests he was
nowhere near it, at least a clear two inches between the ball and
the bat Maybe a noise or something else made Aleem Dar give that one Vaughan waited in disbelief for a few seconds but then walked off obediently - and so, we have Mark Butcher (2 slips and gullies for him).

He usually gives good decision.I will take it as one isolated case.We all do mistakes.

well i haven't seen the play - so can't argue that at the moment - will look into later in the evening.

Aleem did a fine job b/w New Zealand/South Africa series - even Smith praised him.
