...Karachi is more like west.. .women without burqa, guys without beard, and offices and buildings trying to make Karachi look like a western city- this was not Quaid's or Allama Iqbal's dream- they wanted a Pakistan which would be simple, humble and Islamic and not necessarily western or modern.
I dont recall seeing photos of Iqbal or Jinnah supporting Sharia stye beards. Wasnt Jinnah married to a Parsi?
A few quotes from Jinnah for your consideration
‘You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed – that has nothing to do with the business of the State…. You will find that in course of time Hindus would cease to be Hindus and Muslims would cease to be Muslims, not in the religious sense, because that is the personal faith of each individual, but in the political sense as citizens of the State.”
‘Pakistan is not going to be a theocratic state to be ruled by priests with a divine mission. We have many non-Muslims-Hindus, Christians and Parsis – but they are all Pakistanis. They will enjoy the same rights and privileges as any other citizens and will play their rightful part in the affairs of Pakistan.”
When asked whether Pakistan would be a secular or theocratic state, Jinnah retorted that “You are asking me a question that is absurd. I do not know what a theocratic state means.”
When another journalist suggested that the questioner meant a state run by ‘maulanas’, Jinnah retorted, “What about [a] Government run by Pundits (Pundit Nehru was the PM!!) in Hindustan?”
Jinnah continued: “Then it seems to me that what I have already said is like throwing water on duck`s back (laughter). When you talk of democracy, I am afraid you have not studied Islam. We learned democracy thirteen centuries ago.”

Re: Eight killed in Islamabad restaurant blast
Gosh how scary, This one happened near my inlaw's home!! They heard the blast and my BIL just came home from that restuarant!
Someone who understands that Islam and Modernity are not opposites. Someone who's not mentally stuck in the early years of Islamic history and recognizes that you can be a very good Muslim as long as you follow the principles of Islam (praying 5 times a day, avoid interest/alcohol/zina, etc.) and at the same time participate in today's modern society. And that includes working professionally in offices that happen to be in skyscrapers. Btw, I am bearded myself and my wife wears the Hijab, but that doesn't give me the right to bash anyone who choses not to.
I think most of the people thinks here the ISLAM just as a religion (Some rasoomat in mosque, Marriage death / Personal laws etc) This is Pure secular school of thought i think u people never studied or bother about (Capitalism, Secularism, Communism, atheism, Marcisism, idealigilism etc) And so also the Shco economic political system of ISLAM and also the History of ISLAM, JEWS and Christianity (Paulism Actually). Bhaioo ISLAM is a DEEN not religion, Just do some research and learn QURAN in order to capture the truth. ISLAM is not the name of beard and burka only, Its rather the way better system of life than we are currently living or compelled to live under the western influences, Belive me and dont bliam ur own muslim brothers as terrorists its very dangerous thinking in deed.
