Re: Eid - Thursday or Friday
Here we have essentially two major masjids. One is managed by desis and the other by Arabs. The one that is managed by Arabs go by whatever ISNA/ICNA say. The desis follow the Shura Council of California (or something). As long as both agree we don't have a problem. Last year, for Ramzaan, there was a disconnect and ISNA announced start of Ramzaan one day ahead because "a brother and a sister" (who are married to each other), beat all scientific evidence and saw the moon in Austin. Henec we had two start dates of Ramzaan. Miraculously, by the time Eid moon sighting came around, both groups agreed on moon sighting and hence we just had one Eid day last year.
This year Ramzaan started on Wednesday for both groups here. So far so good. Now, absent any antics by "the brother and sister" in Austin, we are in good shape to have just one Eid on Friday. I have a feeling, though, that someone who is not willing to have 30 rozas will see the moon somehow, and we will then have a classic confusion game late on Wednesday evening.
