On top of that...Princeton...Munni, I think he was hitting on you. No princeton guys, even in a down economy would be driving a cab. Not because it is beneath them...but because you are creme dela creme and jobs are there.

When I was in DC, the amount of ppl I met with Masters degrees from top uni's working jobs offering in the $20K's... sheesh. Was a real eye-opener. I would be told at job interviews that there are people with much better qualifications working for menial pay in DC, and they were right.
Several desis who have done MSc's, MA's and MBBS's in Pakistan are driving cabs in western countries as a permanent job to earn livelihood for their families.
I never came across this in Pakistan.
Ofcourse it is their personal decision and as long as what they are doing is halal kee kamai, there is nothing wrong with it. I wonder how such people feel though.
I was speaking to someone whose husband is doing that, he was a top student and topped his department back home whe he did his master's degree.
She told me that if he was to get a proper job related to his field, he would probably earn less than what he earns from driving a cab. The job is not so safe and its physically taxing too but he is going to do it atleast till their kids are small as when they are older it will be embarrassing for them that their dad is driving a cab she said so he might switch then but he might not.
What are your thoughts about this whole issue?

well this story hits home..well sorta...
my dad had sponsored two of my cousins from Pakistan so they could come here and further their education(both had BS at the time) while making some money for their families..well they couldnt find ne work related to their field n so they worked for a limo company for a while (they had to buy their own limo tho)...they made decent wages..about 250-300 each a day(they worked LONG hours and mostly at night) since they lived with us they didnt have to pay rent, n most of their money went towards school and the rest went home..well neways, they got themselves thru masters degree n now one of them works at a lab in Texas while the other moved to Canada but he's still looking for a good job( he currently is unemployed because of medical issues)...oh n both have married..one married my cousin from pakistan who recently came to the US n the other married someone he met in Canada..
I think the reason people with good education driving cabs are mostly limited to who cant find proper job in their field or someone who is studying and going part time jobs dont make much as compared to cabs and it offer flxibility to take time off.
If any one would find a good job they have wanted then they will quit cabing very next moment. But sometime one need money instantly and cant wait for proper job to come due to financial pressures. They also go for this easy solution.
Earning good money is another thing and job satifaction is important too. if one is satified with cabing its good for him. the other may accept low pay for his kind of job.
