I know a lot of people rave about Lush's dream cream being great for sensitive skin and excema but I found it made mine worse.....I should take a look at the ingredients as I don't get on with any Lush products. Which is a shame cos the shops always smell so good :)
I don't have any excema from my scars and I had it really really bad. My mum was pretty vigilant about keeping scratch mitts on me at all times especially during sleep plus the other stuff I mentioned already. The only scars (and they too have faded and are barely visible) are the ones from when my excema became infected during a trip to Pak when I was a child. My mum caved into family pressure and took me to various 'hakims' and herbal doctors which really flared my excema up, and their logic was that my skin had to get much worse before it got better as my body was supposedly expelling the toxins.
My daughter had this around the same age as your kido, SGC.
The doc recommended Aquaphor ointment and bathing with a fragrance free wash. The scars go away completely. She doesn't have any issues now. You may also want to watch if there are certain foods that may trigger the eczema. I know for older kids, docs ask to change the type of cooking oil. In your case, it may be a certain vegetable puree...maybe not.
My daughter had it when she was that age and now my son has it too. We tried many things but they mildly worked. What has been lately working for my son is Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream - it is much better these days now.
i did try it, but it didnt work on my skin so i returned it. now im back to my hydrocortisone.
i was so disappointed. i read great reveiws about this cream and even the guy at the store was surprised that it didnt work on my skin. I think its because im taking medication which coudl have side effects of eczema as well. I say try it for Gabriel, and if it doesnt work, return it. Its all natural anyways - no chemicals.
what do you clean his clothes with? do u use fabric softener sheets?
SCG do u keep him moisturized all times? use vaseline or some oil( u can dilute vit E oil with olive r mustard). he needs to be moistened regularly. use cortisone based creams too but sparingly. don't use any body wash or even shampoo( not even aveeno) just plain water to bath or wash him unless it gets under control. avoid using wipes. my daughter had it too. mostly it was from dryness and she was allergic to nylon so socks, tights, carpets flared it for her. once we figured that out we kept her away from carpets, took socks off as soon as we reach home, put her in less clothes and let her skin breathe more. u need to chk if some thing is flaring it. could be milk too. she's cured now so i think it is just a stage.
You can ask the pediatrician about using OTC hydrocortisone if you think it is flaring up.I used to use that mixed with Aquaphor for my daughter.Hers has now cleared AH and never left any scars.I also used to rub her moisturizer all over her especially after baths.I felt it helped.
stay away from fancy soaps and shampoos and detergents and maybe try to see if there is anything new in his diet (how old is he...?..Has he started solids...?).A friend's daughter had bad eczema and it took them a while to figure out she was allergic to peaches and pears..!!...Once eliminated from the diet, she was perfectly fine.
Did you turn on the hest already? Do you have a humidifier in his room? I hope it gets better for him nut looks like lots of infants go through this phase!
so now he's got a mystery rash all over his torso coupled with the eczema thats starting to form on his chest, his arms and even his legs. what the heck is going on with my baby??
nothing new was added to his regime except for the avene cream and that has been AMAZING in healing his existing eczema on his cheek and chest. i'm hoping it'll keep the other patches under control.
the rash on his chest is like little red dots all over and some of them are clumped together, some spread apart. is it heat rash? it was very cold and windy today so he was bundled up in a onesie, sweater and jacket along with a blankie since i was out and about with him in his stroller.
gtg, the heat is on minimally. there is a humidifier but i haven't used it yet... should i be?
mabrook, i usually do a lotion massage after his bath. since the eczema, i've been using the avene cream all over him too.
he's only 4 months so he's on formula exclusively- no solids yet!
Torso rash is pretty common...in fact rashes in babies are common, period. As Long as there's no fever, itching, inflammation or secretions, it's a temporary reaction to something new...anything. You can call your docs office and confirm, buti remember going through all kinds of rashes.
Could be the heat if he was too bundled up.
Also, babycenter.com has good suggestions. Don't read up too much on the Internet. It can really confuse you and unnecessarily scare you.
my kids have same issue....first one completely got cured from Homeopathic , he is 4 now and alhumdollilah it never came back ...... but unfortunately homeopathic didnt work for my second one and we are still struggling with it..... after number of visits to his pedriatrician these are things I can suggest
1) use only ivory detergent for babies for him, wash his clothes separately
2) use ONLY cotton clothes for him, try not to bundled up him too much because heat definitely aggravate eczema and when you absolutely have to use the sweater on him make sure that any part of his body is NOT in direct contact with the sweater (means he should be wearing cotton in between)
3) use humidifier, it helps somewhat
4) moisture him 3-4 times a day but do not massage too much.
5) no carpets in the house
6) use dove soap for babies for him
7) after applying hydrocotisone, use vaseline original petroleum jelly on him
so we went to see his paed too and she prescribed fucidin h for the infected areas that he scratched and that were really aggravated and scabby, and hydro val for the ones that were coming up. she said the rash was more eczema making its first appearance. i'm to use the fucidin three times a day and only sparingly on the relevant parts and the hydro val twice a day on the up and coming ones. lets see if it works!
i'm also going to start using the Avene emollient wash for bathing him- i'm still astounded by how much it improved his eczema- definitely a fan of their products!
i'm also switching to ivory to wash his clothes, as suggested by you ladies.
we are in the process of relocating the cats too (sniff sniff) as although pet dander won't cause the eczema, because he's sensitive, he will be more prone to outbreaks and allergic reactions because of it than someone who isn't so sensitive.
yourfriend, vaseline? really? on his whole body? the paed said not to mix the emollient and the medication she prescribed.
strange...because i have discussed the issue with many doctors and vaseline is one of the thing they all say is Must.... and yes it is safe to use from head to toe... khair use your judgement and do update us about his condition.... i will try to use avene on my son to see if that helps ....
anyone have experience with Cetaphil?
i didnt want to use the steriod cream too much so i stopped for one day and it flared back up again and now its showing up on his legs too. gah!
i've been reading really good things about Cetaphil cream that comes in the tub and so I'm wondering if anyone here has used it?
