keeping in mind the fact that our interaction with hindus, or with non-muslims in general accounts for a very minor percentage of our lives.

For the many guppies that live in the West where Muslims are a small minority this is not necessarily the case.
Seminole..you are right..however, my use of the term 'interaction' was in reference to meal gatherings. However, you are right...it may be a non factor. We just need to get real.

Before we tackle this question, we might want to shed light on why many muslims in our societies dont even eat from the home of other muslims.
There are still many who keep away from the utensils and food of their servants, thinking of them to be somehow inferior or 'germ-laden' perhaps.
Segregation exists in all societies of this world, and it is not limited to religion only. It is much more detailed than that. So unless we can rid ourselves in particular, and our society in general, of those thoughts, it seems a bit far fetched to bring in a different religion, keeping in mind the fact that our interaction with hindus, or with non-muslims in general accounts for a very minor percentage of our lives.

sad but true..
i eat at my hindu friends' place. i dont mind. its all vegetarian anywayz..i dont think they use anything not halal.
pure vegetarian food is both kosher and hallal. tandoori is not kosher
since they use milk product like yogurt to marinate.
I live in an American southern community where there is not a lot of social interaction between whites and blacks. A supper club was formed several years ago to try and bridge the social gap. A group of blacks and whites met once a month for a dinner together just to get to know each other. It turned out to be a huge success and a lot of understanding and friendships have developed that has helped our community harmony.
That's sounds like a nice idea. Some of these cyber jihadis also need some tolerance training.
My Kaffir thinking....
Be thankful you have something to eat.
And if you are offered something that you would rather not eat?
SIMPLY DONT EAT IT.
Just don't eat from Hindus or any non-muslims meals that are related to their festival - such as Dewali, etc - as any food, even vegetables, that are dedicated to gods other than Allah (swt) become haram.
