One thing that could go in the favour of limited casualties is that Awaran and the surrounding areas are sparsely populated, mostly mud houses and then the earthquake seems to have taken place around 20 kms from the earth surface.

It was 7.7, 66km NNE of Awaran, Pakistan, then there were several smaller ones

I think that we are lucky as the earthquake was about 20-25 Kms below the surface.

Early estimates suggest that, over 100,000 people have been affected by the Earthquake. 200+ have lost their lives. The death toll is rising swiftly.

Saddest thing is that many people had not even heard of awaran until yesterday. This is how deprived and out of focus Balochistan has been.
