Dying on a Friday

Re: Dying on a Friday

Allah's Messenger (saw) said:

"No Muslim dies on the day of jumu'ah or the night of jumu'ah except that Allah protects him from the trials (fitna) of the grave."

Recorded in at least the following hadith collections: Sunan al Tirmidhi (#1056), Musannaf Abd al Razzaq (#5430), Musnad Ahmed ibn Hanbal (#6422, 6488, 6903), Musnad Abd Ibn Humayd (#325), al Tahawi's Mushkil al Athar (#277), and al Tabarani's Mu'jam al Awsat (#3225) and Mu'jam al Kabir (#13638)

Al Tirmidhi said the hadith had a disconnected chain of transmission (he doesn't appear to have considered all its chains however), and Hafiz al Mundhiri (d. 656H) indicates in al Targhib (#5226) that it's a hadith that cannot be supported to the level of authenticity.

Nevertheless, one can reach a different conclusion upon consideration of all its various routes of transmission. Hence, the contemporary hadith master, Shu'ayb al Arnaut, authenticated the hadith in his analysis of Mushkil al Athar (1/p.250-251), and the very recently deceased Abd al Qadir al Arnaut said in his analysis of Jami al Usul (9:272) that the hadith doesn't fall below the hasan/good grade, and also the recently deceased muhaddith, Nasir al Din al Albani, said in Ahkam al Janaiz (p.50) that the hadith is "hasan or sahih" by virtue of a combination of its chains.
