Dupatta/Chunni on its way out?

Re: Dupatta/Chunni on its way out?

If you prefer having a dupatta, then just get one made.

We live in strange times when dupatta for women is becoming a thing of the past while male models are seen wearing embroidered chamkeelay dupattay that make them look sooo gay. Lol, ulta hi hisaab hai. I predict it'll just get worse as time progresses.

And if your kurta is pretty loose, you can go without dupatta. But if the current fashion is to wear really fitted figure-hugging kurtay with no dupatta, the women actually look really gross in them. Funny thing is that the rail-thin models for all these lawn brands are often seen in very loose kurtay and they look graceful while many women in pak want to wear them tight and it doesn't look as flattering.

^ Good point. All the models wear kurtas in styles that are verrrrry loose and it looks elegant. Whereas the aunties and chicks wearing the same style have it fitted much tighter so it looks behooda.

I like the dupatta and always will. It looks classy and completes the outfit, don't care what the trend is. Some things are staples and always will be... dupattas are defo staple in Asian culture.

It's not so much as no dupattas as the option of Not buying a three piece suit if you dont want to...
Plenty of people (teens, working women) mix and match..they buy say 10 shirts which they can wear with two three neutral shade trousers and chiffon dupattas... Or maybe buy a shirt with a motif or two and wear it with plain trousers and bright dupata/scarf.
Super convenient if you don't have time to go to darzis...

Many brands do sell dupatas/scarfs as seperates.. Just bought a couple of kurtas from Zeen..they had matching dupatas for both...

I think it's a good trend.. If you don't want to wear a dupatta, then you dont have to shell out extra bucks for something that will just gather dust in your wardrobe.. If you do, than you have the option of mixing things up...
And if there really isn't a dupatta that matches your kurta...then just buy a chiffon one and dye it the color you want (or go to Gulf/Liberty etc to match)
Still alot less hassle than going to darzis, waiting 10 days for him to sew it only for it to be ruined.

Re: Dupatta/Chunni on its way out?

I think it really depends on the outfit and where your wearing it. I find maxis and coats don't look nice with theme. A lot of my formals now don't have them but my casuals, lawns and cottons, I like to make with because ill mostly be wearing that at the mosque or conservative gatherings. I think it depends. :)
