One question about your description of Dubai. But then how are there so many people with families living in Dubai? I mean it's like normal for Pakistani professionals to be living with family. There are several on this forum and I am sure you know several in real life also. Should I think that is out of ordinary and most Pakistani professionals do not live with family.
No it's not out of the ordinary. There are many Pakistani families living here in Dubai and doing very well, Mashallah. But if you look at the majority of the city's population, then we're not talking about professionals. That's still the blue collar workers. And they do not live here with their families in 90% of the cases.
I read about a statistical survey a couple of years ago. It found that in the UAE alone there are 1 million men, who are married (most of them have kids too), but are living in the UAE as bachelors, ie without their families. That figure is quite old, so I would assume that this number must be at least 1.5 million now.

It depends on the location of course, but these days the rents have come down significantly. You would pay around AED 100k per annum for a 2 bedroom apartment in a decent location (still not absolute top class). That would be around US$ 2270.-- a month.
Last year (before the crisis) the same apartment would have gone for at least AED 150k, so it would have cost you approx. US$ 3400.-- a month.
I though Dubai was one of the cheapest place to shop.
LOL. It was. A looooooooooooong time ago.
