Dubai Airport is one of the better airports that I have been to. Although it all depends on how long a wait you have there! On the way from Manchester we were there for 3.5 hours and it was fun, on the way back we were taking a weeks break in Dubai and had to get hubby's VISA sorted there and then and were stuck there for 7 hours...and believe me, it was tedious...............just wanted to get out of there!!!!
You should've just left the airport for a few hours. I had a stop there for 11 hours, and I just left the airport. Just make sure you don't tell anyone that you are leaving, though.
